Hello, I started playing Diablo 4 again yesterday after a 2-month break. After a major game update, tempering and masterworking are no longer possible on the ancestral items in my gear, even though I’ve been crafting them for months. Is this a bug ? Or is this Blizzard’s way of forcing us to start from scratch ?
I also noticed that the difficulty has increased a lot. I was in Torment 2 and ready to move to Torment 3, but since I nearly died about ten times, I think I’ll go back to Torment 1… It feels like the game is ignoring part of the affixes/aspects on my gear.
You really need to be more specific here. The latest season has only been out for 2-3 days. How have you been working on it for “months”? Is this eternal realm and not seasonal? What specific aspects are not working?
There was a recent update that changed how stats, tempering, and Masterworking function. Any item created or found before the update is now a Legacy item and should no longer be modifiable.

Hello, thanks for your answer. Indeed, any item found before is blocked and most of their stats are just ignored… What a pity, I spent months working on them… Thanks again !

That’s a different problem.
You can only masterwork level 60 items.
So you’ll have to go up to 60 without masterworking.
But I suppose this won’t help you either
Hello all, I confirm that all the previous items (got before this master update) have become « legacy » (outdated is more suitable). Indeed, in this recently designed game, any legendary item already have better basic stats than my crafted ancestral ones… That’s the way Blizzard is using to tell players « Start again from scratches ». It hurts, but that’s the way it is. It’s already better after a few in-game hours and the loot of some newly redesigned ancestral items.
For better or for worse, this is Diablo’s standard way of dealing with outdated items, and the reason is that older items can create unwanted combinations with newer systems.
The other option is to update all items, potentially rendering them unusable. For example, if a stat no longer exists, updating it means deleting the stat from the item.
The whole point of a legacy item is that it retains its original characteristics so that you can at least use them to get the new items. But it has its problems. Legacy items often have mechanics or characteristics that are impossible to obtain, which is why they tend to become very valuable items and an advantage that could be considered unfair to new players.
I’d like to say that this isn’t something that happens all the time, but it’s happened quite a bit in the last year. Eternal players are pretty frustrated.

ok i’m at 60 still know masterwork. it would have been nice to see the details in the notes about stuff like this, sounds like a 45 glyph gets legendary, but it really is 46 glyph.
What?
Still ““NOT/NO”” masterwork??
Remember that level 60 items have the power of item 750. Items found before reaching level 60 usually have a lower level.
