Stopped playing due to the game freezing randomly

I keep getting the same problem over and over no matter if i reinstall the game or reinstall the video drivers, i dont know what else to do at this point, if somebody else has the same problem let me know how you fix it, i have 32gb of ram, Radeon RX 6800XT, tomahawk mobo and a 5600x, i also play borderless as i like to switch between screens without doing alt tab

is your game installed on hdd or ssd?

i was out for 1 week, came back home, downloaded the patch and now the game is just unplayable, I was looking on google if any other user had this issue and I found your post.
So, for me the game is freezing / stuttering really hard whenever I’m playing. I’m testing out the new pet dog and I’m doing a helltide, just freezing then “you’re dead” lol

Same question as Nyurei

Yes sir  . The game is installed in the SSD. The NVME has good health and there was no change to the system since the last 2/10/24 Sunday

Alright, need to ask this as a clarifying question. When you say freeze/stutter, does the whole screen freeze (nothing moves at all, not even falling snow or any ambient animations) or does it just seem to be unresponsive to abilities and/or movement?

Yes, that’s correct. The FPS will start to drop from 144 ( i have it capped to 144) to 2 or 3 then it will froze, nothing will move (0fps) but only sound is is displayed.

So you hear sounds? Do they get distorted/stuttered or do they sound like they normally would?

What video card do you have, and what in-game settings do you use for graphics? How quickly does the FPS drop?

Yes, it’s like the sounds for example the mobs are audible even with the 0fps, its like the sound effects are just playing. I like to play the games in ultra low. I have an i7 8700k - 2x8gb ddr4 3600, gtx 1080ti and the nvme is just a kingston nv2 500gb

Ok, good. Something tells me that your Graphics could be overheating or is running into a feature or setting it’s not meant to handle. But if everything is set to low then your 1080ti should be fine, though I don’t know if it could handle 144fps.

You can force D4 to run at a lower frame by adjusting Foreground FPS in your settings. See what happens if you drop it down to 60.

I already checked the temps and they are just normal. If I uncap the FPS, I get 160-180 FPS during intense moments. In town, it’s a steady 230 FPS. Now that I noticed, the game stuttered → froze again, but I correct myself: the sound is not playing during the freezing moment. It’s just a really brief sound cut, then it comes back to life.

What is your setting for textures? Have you tried adjusting that? It may be that your machine is struggling to load them if they are too large for proper caching.

same here, immediately after patch game started freezing for 10+ seconds. as soon as I load into the game and open the map = freeze, unresponsive. first time I let it crash, second time I waited. unfroze about 15 seconds later.

then went to do last minutes of helltide, as soon as helltide loads = freezes, unresponsive. unfroze about 10 seconds later.

ADATA SSD (not nvme) it freezes and sometimes when i move the mouse to the second screen and click something unfreezes the game

Ya…before I uninstalled, patch is definitely the issue…had the exact same.

i set everything at ultra except shadows

I have this exact issue. Worked fine till latest patch. Nvidia 3080 + 13700K latest win11. Tried newest nvidia drivers. Cleared game and nvidia cache. No help. Even with lowest settings. Have to wait for fix it seems. Bet they coded those dogs so every computer does the math for every player or something like with inventories.

All,

Watch resource monitor specifically the CPU, to see if there are any utilization problems. I had major problems in S2 with max CPU utilization crashing the game. Changing max CPU state to 95% in device manager resolved. Its a possibility.

I was troubleshooting a frame rate (not stuttering issue) I’m having, and game across a youtube video by Mitt Gaming called Frame Stuttering Fix for Diablo 4. It’s a two minute video where he changes a setting in the battle.net app (you don’t have to mess with graphics settings).
You click on the upper left corner of the battle.net app and click settings, then scroll down and disable “Use browser hardware acceleration”. Like I said I don’t have a stuttering issue, but after unchecking it, my GPU usage went down from 99% to about 85% which was worth changing for me.
