Soul Spires are the WORST

Everyone hates spires. We still hate them in Season 10. When I pick the option to have spires spawn LESS often AND IT IS 75% LESS OFTEN…I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO SEE THEM 3 TIMES IN A ROW! Furthermore, when I then DOUBLE UP ON THE OPTION, I SHOULD NOT SEE ONLY BLOODY SOUL SPIRES IN THE ROUND!!! Forget the stupid change to not counting party members outside of the circle. Forget the general buffs to aether drops. WE HATE THESE THINGS!!! You could buff them to drop 500 aether and NO ONE WOULD WANT TO PLAY THEM. We would begrudgingly select them for resources, we would still hate it. Blizzard, here is your notice…we hate these spires!!! GET THEM OUT OF THE GAME.

There’s two problems with Soulspires in Season 10.

Problem #1 is the same as it’s always been which is the mechanics behind them. Either the radius needs to be greatly increased or make them function differently. Perhaps having kills count as long as the player is standing in the ring. You could even shrink it’s radius. At higher levels most ranged classes kill before anything gets inside it. As a Shock Sorc this season I can’t do anything with Spires because everything stays stunned outside. I just ignore them until I can’t.

Problem #2 is something buggy is definitely going in with Infernal Hordes and I swear it feels the system that governs the spawn is backwards. Like someone typed a 1 when there should be a 0. Previously Blizzard had told us that when we would select a boon, behind the scenes a system would give that Aether event a higher spawn chance and the proof of this was in if you could get lucky enough to stack several Hellbound boons it was almost all you would see.

However I have way too many personal anecdotes this season of that now being opposite. On multiple occasions I though I was lucky with early Hellborn boons and twice was able to stack 3 of them up before wave 5. On one run I never saw a single Hellborn meaning they boons were wasted and the other it was only until wave 8 and I was presented with the Hellborn Ambuses you boon did they finally show up. I’ve had multiple examples of the Spires boon that makes them spawn less not do so and seemingly made them spawn more. Those are just two extreme examples but I’ve plenty of other times where I chose a boon and went 2-3 waves after selecting it of not seeing that Aether event.

It is strange that thou dost not complain about the instant sucking of resources and one shooting rifts when ye try to destroy them.

It’s not strange, it’s completely normal to criticize a roadblock while ignoring something that works too well. It’s also a separate issue though I would acknowledge it’s likely they are directly related as it’s obvious the mechanics of Infernal Spires and Spires in the world are one in the same. I wouldn’t be shocked if tuning one directly affects another because to save time they just copy/pasted to the Chaotic Spire to save time instead of creating its own unique type that can be individually tuned.

Problem 1 we already had a solution to. You used to be able to send a party member to the spire and any kills by any other party member counted. Now, we have to kill less, but they have to be inside the ring.

Problem 2, I have noticed this as well. The only thing functioning semi right seems to be elites to aether fiends and aether fiends to aether lords then get some mass modifiers added in. Which all seems really really odd.

However, anyway you cut it…Spires just aren’t fun. For a fast paced game mode that encourages killing more often to get the rewards, locking a player down and having to wait on spawns is ridiculous. We can find ways to make them “better”, but better isn’t the answer. Just get rid of them. I do not want a “better” unfun thing.
