Unless the 7 BIS Uniques magically fix all Sorc’s problems, she is the weakest class in the game. I’m level 80 and I did Nightmare 51 dungeon with maxed out gear 780-815 power level on Frost Shards build. I had one hell of a time in that dungeon. Meanwhile a Rogue 10 leves lower than me with 750 random weapons he found in a trash can is doing Nightmare 60s twice as fast.
Sorc’s damage is horrible, because we exlusively rely on Destruction and Exploit Glyphs, which were nerfed by 66%. Our survivability is none existant. I can stack 15 000 Barrier With Icefall and still get 1 shoted from a white Balista 3 screens away from me.
World tier 3.
I understand why people think sorc is weak though, i had the same issues. It would take me 10 minutes or longer to kill a boss, 22 minutes for one campaign boss to down it. Elites would take several minutes to kill. I felt like i was hitting mobs with a pillow. Once you hit 50 and actually start getting gear it becomes much easier. For bosses in world tier 3 nightmare dungeons i kill them in under 30 seconds.
My biggest recommendation is either go with a fire wall build for leveling, or use ice shards. If you get a couple legendaries for it ice shards desteoys.
100+ hours and the game hasn’t even been out a week. That’s four days out of the seven days purely playing Diablo. Insanity.
What’s the flame shield for?
For the only 2 seconds window Sorc can actually stand still and attack, because rest of the time is running in circles so it doesn’t get 1 shoted by a white archer 2 screens away.
You should be melting everything with ice shard build. There are too many key details missing from your post.
Yes sorcerer does need tunning up (im looking at you, fire skills). But it should be no where near as bad as you’re saying.

Extra heal, quick barrier, and a get out of cc cast.
Just equiping legendaries with some Intelligence and Willpower sprinkled here and there isnt enough.
Are you stacking:
Damage vs Vulnerable
Damage vs Frozen
Damage vs Chilled
Damage vs Crowd Control
Cold Damage
Bonus damage on Core skills
Bonus Damage on Mastery skills
Damage Bonus with Barrier up
Aspect Skill Bonuses
All of these Damage bonuses stack with each other. And soo many sorcerers run around with legendaries that dont have stacking bonus damage stats.
Lot of cool endgame applications of shatter when you start to see the ways to boost the damage spooling once enemies have higher health.
Pro tip: stack gear that increases CC time to extend freeze, thereby increasing the damage to apply with shatter.
I had near identical runs of the same dungeon with a build that basically allowed a direct swap from avalanche to shatter. The speed of clear difference is insane with shatter versus avalanche.
Better Pro tip: Don’t do anything like that. Increased CC duration is a dead stat. Not only it’s a deat stat, it’s actually bad for you to have it on as it applied towards mob’s unstopable bar. It’s way better to CC a mob twice than have 50% increased CC duration and only be able to CC it once.
In Nightmare dungeons your only form of defence is CC and let me tell you, having even a single “CC duration” stat on the gear in Nightmare 50, makes it absolutely unplayable. Mobs become unstopable waaaaaaaay to quickly and mash your head into the ground, because having 15k Barrier just doesn’t matter, as Sorc doesn’t have hidden DR like the melees.
Uh, while it definitely gets worse, a Sorcerer can also clear 3-4 at 60. At 67 I’m clearing 24, although it’s not very comfortable. 18 - 20 is a lot smoother, but that’s not to take away from your main point about other classes doing the same tiers easier, or even higher.
The overall gameplay just sucks in the higher levels. It all revolves around massive amounts of cooldown reduction and waiting for Frost Nova (Vulnerability + Stun) to be ready so I can blow up packs. Without Frost Nova, I do basically zero damage to anything.
Heh, good to know. I’ve been holding on to that aspect for a while now, debating on using it after I get the legendary node that returns mana on stuns (to replace the affix that returns mana when using a cooldown). Guess I won’t be, and instead I’ll use another one that deals damage vs CC and also even more vs unstoppable, which will stack with my other two +damage vs CC mods.
lol dude no, you want them unstoppable, there’s specific gear that boosts your damage when they are unstoppable.
Trust me. Once you see it in game you will understand. Can’t just forum papercraft fake builds kid.
Spoken like a true white content enjoyer, that haven’t seen the inside of a high level Nightmare dungeon. Forget that Socs don’t do damage to uncontrolled mobs. They DO NOT LIVE against uncontrolled mobs.
You do realise that every single class on these forums are all complaining they are too weak.
I am level 65 having no problems whatsoever. Yeah I don’t have constant uptime but this game should still be a challenge and not a steam roll.
Honestly don’t get what half of you are crying about.
You can blame all the whiners in the beta crying about how chain lightning was too powerful. Blizzard panicked and over nerfed it based of capped lvl 25 characters with min/maxed gear fully upgraded legendaries.
Disagree with this part - Barb and Druid are far worse in that department until later in the game.
Im currently lvl 78 and i absolutely hated playing iceshards, i went and changed to blizzard but takes me 15-20 mins to clear a dung at teir 30 now. Really slow but for the sake of my sanity i did it. My single target is bad but im still sane.
