Bear druid is about Overpower, not really the regular dps you are used to. It’s a late bloomer.
Everything is if you nerf everything.
I wish that was a much bigger exaggeration.
I remember an interview with a Blizzard dev who told a story about watching a boy playing their Lost Vikings game for the first time.
Boy moved half a screen, char fell down a hole and died.
Boy just walked away.
The lesson was, you can make the greatest content for a game, if you ruin the first impression people will never bother to see it.
Guess that guy is not working for Blizzard anymore.
I uninstalled D2 because it was “a bit slow to start but so fun to play after you grind to lvl 70 and farmed gg gear”.
I uninstalled D-I because I still couldn’t smash a handful trash mobs after finishing the campaign.
Looks like I have to let D4 sit for a while until they give in and make it playable after people leave in droves and nobody buys their mtx.
i tried firewall with just yellows. both my legendaries i found were trash for most builds.
firewall, fireball and firebolt. it was okayish, but didnt felt special, but i guess its missing some key component like immobilize. it was especially retarded against goblins -.- w/o any form of slow or cc.
then i tested if the conjuration cc with the frostnova enchant still proccing reasonable. Which it did not. Since the lh nerf, you need a lot more +lh . The fact that it stacks multiplacative is kinda sad, with those other restrictions like proccing on crit and such. Seems a bit too much layered for early game.
The most success i had was ice shards(+enchant)/nova with barrier/vulnerability trigger. Was by far the fastest clearspeed w/o any legendaries. Will probably go that route for early leveling on release.
Havent tested lightning tho.
Was D2 hard for you? I would argue D2 had the same level of difficulty as D3, maybe even easier.
Enemies on higher torment and GRift have more special abilities, D2 had notoriously easy ways to boost your characters between Trist/Tomb/Baal/Cow, all of which could be instant cleared with optimized builds.
I play ice shards build with piercing legendary and fireball enchantment and its total faceroll.
D2 difficulty was great. Never had a problem.
I feel like they have a difficulty in mind here and want to make sure that difficulty is in place no matter how good you are so they assume the best spec and the best gear and the best player skills. Which just means the 98% of players who don’t have all this are going to be unhappy. Something we learned in WoW was that if you are tired of the dedicated players racing through your content and so you make things harder, the dedicated players go from 10 hours to 11 hours, and everyone else goes from one week to three weeks lol. It’s pretty much impossible to control the dedicated hard-core players and at the same time make the rest of the players happy.
Several recommendations here are for very specific builds with one of the ~2 pairs of skills that are still relatively powerful. This is a horrible of the indictment of the game because it beans just making up your own build is not viable and you should go out at level 1 abd google the flavor of the month and use exactly that and nothing else in order to have the most success. The difference between the best and worst build should be one of speed and efficiency, not one of “haha your spec sucks so you don’t progress.” People with terribad builds should be able to reach the same end state as the best players with the best builds, but it’s totally fine if that takes them ten times longer. There’s motivation in there to get better and “figure stuff out” rather than just “If you play the game of D4 you win or you die.”
At the moment this stuff is so bad that I feel like a month after launch they’ll just throw up their hands and buff the hell out of everything / nerf all the content, and that would also be a terrible result. I’d really like to see them get this right, but currently I think the Tier I difficulty needs to go way down, and the Tier II difficulty needs to stay the same or even go up. The fact that they often seem like they are literally identical right now again seems like something is actually broken.
So, if I want to have fun today, what’s the most OP class and build right now?
I had success with frost orb, frost nova and hydra. I generally had to fight while retreating and then teleporting back towards my hydra to keep enemies at an effective frost orb distance. Felt a little clunky early on without +movement and +chill +freeze to better manage groups and positioning
Got level 20 sor and only issue i have on bosses and groups with elites.
Have all class to level 20 except barb. They all are fine considering capped at 20.
People were trying to give you FotM because FotM is FotM because it works. That does not mean other builds are not workable.
I have gone back to Spark/Charged Bolt/Lightning Spear. I did get a legendary off Ashava which makes Charged Bolts last 300% longer and have a 42% chance to seek targets, but unless you are casting Charged Bolts at a modest range, the extra duration does not mean a lot and you generally want to be relatively close so the bolts can hit the same target and generate a lightning nova. Tossed in some Elemental Dominance and Glass Cannon, and foes die nicely. Use your Enhancement slot to spice in defense or offense as desired (I went with Frost Bolt so Spark/Charge Bolts/Lightning Spear all chill).
Its always going to be like this people find a gr8 build then they get nerfed
Just an added note for people to hit S and assign an enchantment. I similar to OP was leveling with arc/chain/hydra build and was great until 16 and that is when it became purely kiting and slow slow damage. Getting the enchantment with fireball exploding on kill was a big help. Either way OP is accurate that lightning falls off hard around 16.
Well, I went back and did it all over again on Barb today and it could not have been easier. Just Hulk Smash everything in the game, bosses melted at Tier II, super easy, no resource issues, etc. It’s like a totally different game. So much so that I really feel like there are some massive issues with scaling and difficulty tier not actually working right.
Seems like a you problem. I played a chain lightning Sorc all the way to 20 on Tier 2. Completed Act 1 entirely. Even solo’d the Stronghold capture thing that was level 22. No issues. Tweak your build.
The only issues I had on ice spec sorc were the rampant bugs in the game, like all the grouping issues and broken content.
I evaporated everything except bosses at lvl 20 and even soloed the lvl 30+ stronghold.
I will say that without the level of gear you can get from Ashava, you’ll have issues. You won’t get sufficient gear from the normal game content. The way they’ve done the scaling and the gearing, farming a world boss becomes a MUST do. IMO not the best plan, but that’s the way they set it up.
Yup tried so many different respects that it kicked me out and locked my account LOL. Sorc needs fixing… necros fine, druid is fine, barb is fine and rogue is meh until you get the two legendary daggers… you’ll know when you get them.
I mean, this is nonsensical, but I’ll take it. I hope you convince everyone of this because I don’t want sorc to get worse. It’s still in good shape, but the conjuration tree is completely useless now. Besides that, you can one shot entire rooms with charged bolt enchantment done right. Same with ice shards and frost nova with ice shard enchant. Sorc steam rolls barb and druid in early levels.
But again, keep saying what you’re saying. I’d rather have people believe that.
Diablo 3 at max Torment at launch was not easy either unless you were using the infinite surv Wizard build that got nerfed extremely quickly.
The thing is that most people didn’t really consider that version of D3 to be overly fun. There is an entire decade of small changes between launch D3 and D3 of today.
Lol I was talking 20 and on… it falls off and bossing or mob control is lost big time. But your nonsensical response is comical and I’ll stay for the entertainment.
