Shield-based Class

They need to bring in the fan favs or they get crucified by the mob with the torches and pitchforks. They are lucky because the Rogue class worked well because if this wasn’t the case and the rogue would’ve suffered from bad early scaling and players that arent able to push through a lot “Dh would’ve been 1000x better why do you come up with a terrible class that isn’t working!” posts. It would’nt be bad to have the staple classes in and then add more intresting classes.

Thing is… if the game is any good and makes money they can keep it up forever and include new classes each year or 2.

exactly. that’s why you need em dwarfy. balance reasons. much more stable on those feet, if they are shorter. gissa mushroom pala, blizzos!

Yeah i rekon Paladin will be an expansion like i said above, and it`ll likely tie into the story a bit… Maybe they should add some Flavor and when Heavens gates finally open, as a Hardcore special you can play as Tyreal in Mortal form, if you die, there is no Justice/Wisdom left

:raised_hand: I happen to like Crusaders.

The crusader was quite paladiny, what was wrong with it?

Crusader is like New Coke. It is the same thing as Paladin, just slightly worse and damaging to the brand to perpetuate. Basically, D3 should be mostly retconned. If it was in D3, don’t put it in D4 is a pretty good standard.

Didnt answer my question, why did Crusader not live up to expectations?

Was it the lack of auras?

I’m expecting something like a pally/crusader. I’m hoping they don’t do some combination like crusader/monk. I personally wished they would of made the rogue pure melee and released a pure bow class instead of combining them.

There’s a probably neither the Paladin nor the Crusader will be used.
Could be a Templar or Knight class instead, the name doesn’t do much as it’s still a Shield/Aura based class. Maybe there’s a new and better lore attached to the class but that’s about it.

That said, it could also be a Priest/Cleric archetype where it is Aura based class. Blizz could decide to split up the Shield & Armor and the Healer & Aura classes. We’ll never know until it happens.

I doubt it will be that soon. Using D3 as an example Crusader came with Reaper of souls and that was almost 2 years after the game released. Necro came even later than that.

No auras, wonky skills, bad class weapons, lack of very impactfull skills and lack of class idendity. If I don’t read the lore the Paladin looks like a holy fighter type while the Crusader looks like some kind of hedgeknight noone wanted in service. The only paladiny wibe I get is the transformation Akkerath’s chapion or something like this? I need to look it up but I don’t even want to look it up because seeing Crusaders is already boring af.

At the end of the day it’s a question of taste while I most likely question everyones taste who likes Crusaders  . nah just kidding it’s fine either way but compare the D2 skill options with the D3 Crusader skilloptions and you see easiely where the differences are.

Intriguing discussion gents, thank you. The angelic WINGS on the “Holy Warrior” class is interesting. Is it a literal thing, will they let us play as an angelic knight, or is a figurative way of letting us know it was a “Holy” class.

Personally, I LIKE a shield and spear “Holy Knight” class, it distinguishes it from the 2 hand Barbarian and Druid classes. I mean, the Templar in Diablo 3 uses only one handed weapons and shields…Are they going to return as a playavle class in Diablo 4, headed by their progenitor, Kormac? :stuck_out_tongue:

A shield-based class in Diablo 4 with dexterity as its main attribute could be a great addition to the game. Naming it “Slayer” would be fitting, as it implies a class that is both deadly and capable of protecting its allies. The Slayer could specialize in quick, agile movements, deflecting attacks with ease and striking back with deadly precision. This class could also have skills that allow it to move swiftly around the battlefield, allowing it to protect its allies and keep enemies at bay. Overall, a Slayer class in Diablo 4 could add a new layer of depth and excitement to the game, and be a great addition to the franchise.

My money is on the class already being designed however. D3 had a revenue stream from the RMAH until players revolted and quit the game in droves. With the simplicity of the game design for D4 and the amount of AAA titles coming out, some in the same genre as Diablo, I think it will be 6 months in in order to remain competitive. It is low-hanging fruit to grab a bunch of cash and get a lot of players back.

That’s not what a slayer means to me. Slayer I would view as more offensive type class, like a rogue.

I mean, you could name it a “zealot”, if not a templar.

I believe in this as well, they’ll have to push quality content in a faster manner to keep themselves relevant, this is year is crazy with releases and I believe it’s only going to get “worse”.

I doubt it. It wont be months before we see a new class. Even for Diablo immortal using a similar monetization, has not released any classes and June will be it’s anniversary.

Blood Knight was data mined months ago and there’s still no official announcement. Diablo 2 expansion came a year later and games were easier to develop back them. It will be at least a year or more before we see any classes added.

If you’re talking about the pre-order freebies, I think that’s just purely cosmetics.
IIRC there’s something like that in D3 as well.

The default Templar/Holy Knight/Paladin/Crusader archetype has always been a class that equips in heavy armor with shields and smiting the heck out of demons. That is likely taking from real world history of the Knights Templar who at one point in history was the strongest holy military order on Earth. If a Knight Templar joins your battle, they will not retreat until all your flags are down no matter how dire the situation may be. They boost morale to troops and rally the frightened, and stand steadfast in the face of adversity. It would be foolish for Blizzard not to make a such a popular class in their Diablo game.

I would laugh if the “holy class” is just a story npc like tyrael 2.0 and the next class that is included is a witchdoctor  .
