Imagine saying seasons will end Diablo with a straight face and in all seriousness. Eeesh.
You’re right! But, D2 also had so much replayability on non-ladder characters. You pretty much had to create new characters to try new things.
There was a massive PvP audience on D2.
There was an active trading community in D2.
D2 had much deeper character customization than D4 does.
D2 non-ladder was constantly getting new things to do when Blizzard North was active.
Non-Ladder D2 had such a strong community during it’s prime. It was never hard to find a game to do anything.
Leveling up was so much more rewarding in D2 than it is in D4.
Gear progression was much more rewarding in D2 than it is in D4.
Seasons were longer lasting in D2.
Seasons showed up 3 years after D2’s launch. The game was not designed with seasons.
Seasons were literally implemented as a lazy form of end-game to hold players over until Diablo 3 was launched by Blizzard North. 2 years after seasons, Blizzard north was shut down and all new content for Diablo was halted. Seasons continued as endgame because it’s quick, low cost form of “endgame.” This is how seasons became a thing.
People loved diablo 2 so much they’re willing to replay it over and over.
D4 was literally designed as a MMOARPG with it being like Lost Ark. The world is so much larger than d2’s. There are pretty much 1000× more quests in d4 than in d2.
I don’t remember this but it was such a longtime ago I could be wrong. LoD’s expansion brought everything to both games but then when new runewords were introduced they locked those on ladder.
Not sure who that was - North or Blizz

PvP & Trading - True, 100%
Assume you mean builds? Yes, but I honestly don’t feel like it is a significant difference if your focus is being “near top level”
Correct, and we don’t know how D4’s will be. NL never had much of an issue on D2 until D2 got to a point of minimal play due to age/mods splintering the playerbase too much
I think 3 months is too short, I’d prefer 4 easily.
No, it was put in to try and recover the economy that had gone bust due to duping. They fixed the easiest forms of duping that were known and then started seasons to get the economy back in order. It only partially worked in honesty.
It have a pointless open world with other players in the same world. The leveling is same as older MMOs and they promoting it with a in-game event in wow after the goblin event so some people going to confuse this as one.
I know what seasons is as it I can never understand why people have to be told to reroll when in other RPGs you can restart when when you feel like it. I never chased the boards as sweating to keep up makes a game a job than fun.
If it was not for the battle pass , I would ingored the season as one new mechanic and a set of armor it not worth the level 50 to 100 grind. If S1 is the same as now, they can keep it.
still got time to delete this bro
No one is forcing you to play seasons.
Season was the best thing in Diablo 3. I dont know what are you talking about.
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. The only reason I’m even playing Eternal at all is because the seasons haven’t started yet.
Mcdonalds is the most popular garbage you can eat in a establishment right now… Does that mean it’s good or even best? No.
The godfather of fast food being the most popular doesn’t mean it’s good fast food, or even the best. It’s just the baseline.
You haven’t played 2 seasons of D3/RoS.
Seasons are NEVER played the same way, because they’re all different themes. You’re doing different things,.
I played 28 seasons of D3/RoS, and it SAVED D3. D3 was still new every 3-4 months.
Even trying to play Diablo’s Advocate; if a factual 90% of the base bought something “uninformed”, there would be grounds to calling it a scam, as there would’ve had to have been SOME form of false advertizing.
But this isn’t that.
This is a game, who’s predecessor (D2) invented Seasonal play for the Genre. A ton of other games in the genre and (adjacent genres) have copied this mechanic. New season = new features = gotta roll a new character to utilize the new features of that season.
The people here crying that they didn’t know are either blind, deaf, dumb, or simply trolling. Personally, I don’t take anything they say with any more weight than my cat yelling at me even though I fed her TEN MINUTES AGO YOU FURRY TERRORIST!
D3/RoS seasons were new every 3-4 months. The stories progressed. The gear was different. The GRIND was different. In any season, the grind itself was different from the previous seasons grind. The Devs moved forward every 3-4 months with a VERY different take on the game. New gear, new or changed class abilities, new potentials for different builds based on those changes every 3-4 months.
I played 28 seasons, and I was always astounded by the depth of the work the Devs did…for just 3-4 months. The Devs were always present working on something for the next season, which would be very different.
Whatever you think “seasons” is, you are wrong.
the weak will fall off the strong will stay and do seasons
D4’s MMO features are completely in conflict with the seasonal model of the past games. It’s just bad system design. Like they want the greatest hits of POE and Lost Ark without understanding those games are fundamentally different.
This is the issue, Blizzard used to be good at stealing good ideas and making them better, but now they just use the same old tired formula and make it worse by slapping a number on a key and calling it content.
They made an isometric version of wow basically.
Define strong, because all i see are shut-in and loners who will dedicate towards seasons after season doing restart and throwing away all their 3months characters because hey, new SEASON who need all those old characters that’s no longer can be play in the new contents.
D3 seasons were not like PoE leagues that actually added major new mechanics that were sometime adopted permanently to expand the game.
Most D3 seasons were very minor things and didn’t represent a great deal of development time. They infrequently added new items or sets. When they actually added new maps it was just dumping content they had worked on for an expansion that was cancelled.
The last season was the biggest system they ever added to a season and it was the last major change the game will ever see. A lot of it was just throwing in QoL stuff people had asked for for years and they threw it in before they were done working on the game.
Not a single one of these statements is true at all, not sure where you came up with this. You’re not describing Diablo 3. The meta changed as things were nerfed and buffed, but it wasn’t drastically different from one season to another.
pretty much this, and most of the population of non morons
People who want to play seasons and buy premium battle passes are the customers Blizzard wants to keep.
Play 2 seasons of RoS, and you’ll understand how they are so truly different, each season ![]()
By season 5 I realized that the old “non-seasonal” I’d been playing since the game dropped, was just boring to play, so I quit playing it. I had more fun playing the seasons, because they were always different, something new ![]()
So,YES, last seasons characters are irrelevant in the new season
Because the new season is so different from the last that it’s a new game so you need new characters. Last game’s characters can’t work in the new game… a different game. ![]()
That combined with the solo seasonal HARDCORE Leaderboard, made D3 truly fun. ![]()
Not worse than or better than D4. Just different. And I have every reason to expect that D4 will get better, as it evolves. Blizzard games always get better than vanilla ![]()
personally i dont care for my characters after seasons
they are basicly dead to me
i do care for the fresh restarts tho and will do seasons for a long long time
and probably retire a ton of characters
thats how i like it and want to personally play my game
i did not understand seasons also untill i actually tried them
and as you can see at my reply i really like it ![]()
