In S8, the emphasis on using boss skills as your primary damage skill is bizarre . It’s like they gave up fixing and balancing skills, couldnt figure it out, so they slap on some orders of magnitudes powers, which ALL 5 classes will be using instead. Sorry, but this is another L.
Boss power – the idea itself is great, but it should never be your main damage output, should never overperform by 5 zeroes compared to your core skill damage.

It’s like they go, “You know what was really balanced and a great idea? Heart of Barber in Season 1! That was so balanced, we should add a bunch of powers like that!”

In season 7, seasonal powers supported characters powers.
I don’t mind in season 8, Boss powers will be the main focus and the character powers and skills support the boss powers.
However for the above to happen, they need to introduce a more powers variety and balance the powers better.
I mean, i get it, no right or wrong, but just isnt my cup of tea when the game steers you away from playing your class fantasy. Instead, in S8, we have probably 3-4 boss powers that all 5 classes will be playing as their main spell.
Have you seen the latest potion farting Belial build? Yeh, nah, this game is getting sillier by the season.

If the boss powers are needed to counteract a lot of the negative power changes, then they should not limit it to seasonal mode. This should be the season where the gimmicks are no longer restricted to seasonal mode.
If some people like to start from scratch, they can still do that.

I was just thinking that Eternal toons are gonna be crushed if no access to these powers.

Wrong direction in my opinion.
Borrowed powers (I like them) should contribute to max 30% of all damage.
D4 is peak bad arpg game design.
No end game. Boring seasons. No ladder. One end game build per class.

They apparently according to testers somehow found a way to make classes and heroes even more generic where your chosen skill does not matter so much as to support boss power. So everyone is going to be running around with the same overtuned boss powers. Its barber heart as a power all over again and apparently its andariels power. This combined with awful difficulty changes and death of rotations (under the smokescreen of stopping leechers) and increased boss mat costs and less loot overall and you can see what this season is truly about. Its about selling time to gear as content. This is a yet new low for Blizzard. How they keep pulling off a way to sink further into quicksand of their own making is justin unbelieber. WE will probably have dupes and exploits again as well as that has never been solved.

If your actual class does 10% of your total damage and boss powers that everyone uses does 90% then balance is fixed! hurrah

Have seen this in another thread and asked the question there too but no answer yet.
Any idea yet what’s going to be involved in acquiring and levelling the seasonal powers, like what’s are they gated behind?
Seems relevant to consider “when” the power will be acquired and at what stage of development it’s going to be able to be put into
action in the most powerful form being spoken of.

The blue powers come from the incursion event bosses.
Each World Boss has one.
Those all can be unlocked at any level.
Each Lair boss has one but can only be unlocked at T1+.
They’re leveled by acquiring the seasonal drop during the incursion event, same as we’ve done with past seasonal powers.

Thanks for the info. So if im following it right…
S8 is get to torment (end game) with whatever your build is, then start progressing both your build and (end game) season powers to progress through the (t1-t4) end game.
And we’ve had ptr testing of reasonably decked s7 characters with no season powers doing up to around pit 90.

To obtain a boss power you simply need to defeat the appropriate boss. So to get Belial’s Eye Beam power you need to defeat him. This gives you the level 1 version of the power.
You can select one “main” power and three “bonus” powers. The powers require a new resource for the season you get from the seasonal events where you stop Belial from coming to Sanctuary and a few other places (some boss fights, for example) You use these to level the powers up to rank 20
The powers rely on your skills and stats (including paragon bonuses) as well as their rank. So a power might only do 10K damage at rank 1 at player level 15. But leveled to rank 20 and with paragon 250 nodes unlocked it might do 5 million damage or more.

Thanks for that, some more detail there. The season 8 theme is sounding like a reasonably cohesive game plan to me at the moment. Still, will keep watching and considering as people post their various concerns.
Also keeping in mind people are taking about
- a deep progression path unlikely to be beaten to pit 150 (barring exploit discovery)
- Very powerful endgame only seasonal power development
Ah huh…

So what your saying is, blizzard is going to finally balance all the classes as the new boss powers will be make everyone OP.
Bold strategy Cotton, lets see if it works out for them.

Pretty much, everyone will be popping potions shooting out laser beams. Outside of boss powers, nothing else really matters. Boss power carries you hard.
Like who is making these decisions honestly.

Seems you’ll need something else
other than boss powers to get to the end game and acquire, then level the boss powers to progress through the endgame doesn’t it?
Notwithstanding we’re still waiting to see the power level they go live with.
I think I have made mind up. Unless they do something drastic Im sticking with stardew valley. Im not playing this trash heap. First skipped season for me.
I got 100 mods working and endless content to get through and 25% profits only and extra hard construction buildings and mines and such so its going to take 500h to get through all that. Im good. This season is a complete disaster and it will need changes before I play it. Lets see if I stick with it!
