and calling ppl low Iq because they have theire own …
It’s the way the world works. I know for a fact I enjoy Diablo 4 quite a lot, and the advanced workings of PoE do my head in, so it’s highly likely I’m one of the low IQ people this game is targetted at. And I’m not in the least way offended.
Path of Exile II will sweep the floor with this MMO.
Welcome to catering to D3 playerbase. The D2 fanboys and neckbeards left and are playing PoE 2 or D2R.
Runesystem is fine as is. I don’t want anything like D2 and I’m glad they mix it up with Lego gems from D3
We miss Blizzard North
In my humble opinion it’s because the developers who are working on D4 came from D3 (devs and managers/directors) and can’t do anything different. Furthermore, it seems that all players love everything about D3 and are willing to pay more for a game like D3 and not something new for the franchise (but for the love of god, let it not be an MMO)
People will say they don’t want anything as complex as D2 and if you think D2 is better than D4, then go there
I’ll never understand why they insist on ignoring the good things about D2 and not bringing anything inspired by that to D4.
They keep changing their minds because their “direction” is as fleeting as the wind.
Weren’t these runewords in alpha testing and they scrapped it due to alpha testers werent a fan of it???Looks like they put it in anyway to boost the sales of the expansion
There is nothing complex with D2 runewords. They are just uniques with extra steps that overshadowed all other items in the game. Runes became a trading currency replacing SOJ trade in 1.10.
D2 runewords is fine for D2 but we dont need another tier of gear that just replaces everything else. And i sure dont want to start collecting white socketable bases.
D2 was and is quite good (currently playing the heck out of it).
But D2 runewords were honestly quite bad. Overall they made the game worse.
Had they been properly balanced, it would have been much better. But in the end, they were just a crafting system.
D4 runewords are great in theory.
But the implementation is somewhat lacking. Like most else in D4, the system is too simplistic.
Anyone that thinks runewords were perfect in d2 or even a positive addition to the game really didn’t care about the game rune words made all the other gear in the game worthless except for a handful of items which were then made useless by the lod runewords
Really? So give me an example of helmet runeword which is better than Shako. Any ideas?
Flickering flame if you were a fire sorc

They keep changing their minds because their “direction” is as fleeting as the wind.
Eh, I mean, that’s kind of half true. Their direction consistently has been to try to get the most players playing and staying playing. D2 and D3 were pretty different games and had different playerbases and aims. And trying to make everyone happy is a pretty wide net to cast since all those desires between long grinds and super rare drops vs players who don’t have a lot of time and want to be able to still experience the game or players who just want things easy with no effort… it’s just a really hard goal to design a game that is somehow both things but they’re contradictory. They’ve been trying to make the game literally be some weird thing that makes everyone happy regardless of what someone’s personal tastes are. So that’s why it seems weird and fleeting. But it’s still been a consistent goal on their end.
Plus they’re also trying to manage demands and making compromises with their finance-bro execs and their need to make money, so they ended up going with a 3-month season format which basically undermined 100% of any of the D2-style format that they’ve had, and that’s why slowly over time they’ve had to push more and more and more towards the D3-style elements - it’s the only kind of gameplay that fits in short seasons where all your time and effort completely resets.
And I think the 3-month season format has a lot to do with why they went in this direction with the new runeword system.
Still, I am disappointed with it and I really wish it was more like the D2 system, not just for nostalgia’s sake. It has potential in its new form but it’s gonna prob be a year at least before they get to the point of reworking it into a much better version similar to the reworked codex and items and stuff they’ve done.
So, yeah, in like a year then we’ll have the “real” D4 runeword system.
I agree…BUT…its too late for real D2 runewords. They did their “loot reborn” and if they were to add d2 style RWs to this game it would be stupid easy and make d3 look difficult. Just a sign of incompetence from the devs as they really dont have a direction or a roadmap. Just adding more crap just because

Flickering flame if you were a fire sorc
Flickering Flame? OK. Let’s say - nice exception for Fire Sorceress / Fire Druid / Fire Bowazon.
I agree with you.
Ok maybe there were still some that survived runewords but honestly at this point we would just be arguing semantics that don’t matter cause there arnt enough of them to matter for the point I was making
Let’s say you’re right. For now…
I hope you’re not trying to say D2 runewords was a complex system because if you feel it was maybe you shouldn’t be talking about other people’s IQ.
Hopefully I just misunderstood what you were trying to say due to my abysmal IQ.

I agree…BUT…its too late for real D2 runewords.
Sorry bub. They’re in the game. It’s how you make mythics now except they switched the garbage item mat for sparks and you don’t physically put the runes in slots to craft them. But if you like that they sell toys where you can put shapes in holes.
Flickering Flame really??? it was added in patch 2.4(2022) and its a viable choice for 2 or 3 builds lol shako is still better for magic finding gives a ton of life and mana and 10% damage reduce…
