Haven’t played Diablo IV since season 2. Deleted original account. Re-purchased Diablo IV in January 2025. Created new account. Just completed season 7. Didn’t start an eternal realm class build. Completed renown of 1700 points in every zone on my last class build of Sorcerer. Hit 300 on my necromancer build.
Questions:
Will all the remaining 4 class builds replicate the renown attained by the sorcerer build (1700 points) at end of season 7?
If so, what renown will carry over from season 7 to my 1st class build of season 8?
He said he opened a new account and did all the Renown “homework”, I said the game is better off without those bonuses (i.e. shouldn’t be worried about/for them)
I can see how it didn’t quite directly answer his original question though
This ‘head start’ feeling is basically how alts have felt since D2. Back then it’s purely an “item & mats boost” whenever you level an alt. Same in D3, plus Kanai’s Cube, plus now the Altar of Rites. D4 learned that starting fresh every 3 months is basically like starting an alt with no ‘boost’… for those of us used to that boost, it simply sucks.
I wouldn’t say there’s a perfect formula in every situation, but I think very few players in the genre like to level up alts from scratch.
I’ve read the descriptions on how to attain renown, my question is:
I created 5 class builds and achieved max renown in all regions (1700 plus points for each region on the sorcerer), only attained this on my sorcerer build in season 7.
The other 4 class builds do not show the same renown accorded to them. Will the max renown I achieved on my sorcerer in season 7 carry over to my season 8 first class build after hitting 60?
I’m starting out new in Diablo 4 in season 7. I understand the class builds will be sent to the eternal realm at end of season 7. What happens with renown in season 8? Does the highest renown supersede the 4 other class builds that have less renown?
Do I need to delete the other lower renown class builds and just leave the sorcerer?
(Deleting chars does not affect anything AFAIK. Your highest renown is what counts. Logging into the main char one time is no longer needed - but back when this came into effect some people apparently found it was needed, so keep that in mind I guess.)
No, all the renown does not carry over. Basically, renown gotten from (iirc) quests, strongholds, and dungeons, doesn’t carry over. You get enough renown carrying over in each region to unlock 2 columns of (major) rewards in the Renown panel, plus a bit of the 3rd column. Idk how much renown specifically that equals to, but it should be roughly what you earned from exploration, waypoint discovery, and altar/tenet discovery. (It’s possible something’s changed, but I didn’t notice anything different from this when I started S7 or S6.)
So:
no need to delete anything;
~half of renown carries over;
it should be automatic (but I guess log into sorc one time, for good luck, in case the old bug shows up).
If I’m out of the loop here, someone will correct me.
The Renown Points will reset, but you’ll get credit for discovered areas, Lillith statues, and Waypoints unlocked.
The Renown Rewards will all be unlocked. This means you technically don’t care about the Points. You’ll get all the Rewards regardless of how many Points you have. Unless you’re a masochist, and just like maxing your Points again, but there are no additional rewards for it.
You lose the “close call” combat, that IMO is a quite the price to pay for having a “head start”. Just make loot less smart (like 60-70-75% instead of 95%) and voila, you have your head-start for alts without ruining the experience
It is also bad in terms of Paragon
I mean they made it a bit better by giving like 5 points at a time (I think) instead of slapping all extra 20/24 to you but still => can’t design/balance a game with a system like that
It is a really bad system that prevents the game from being balanced around normal growth
Also this part:
I disagree
That “boredom” comes from the extra power, not being overpowered actually makes the gameplay experience better… Makes everything careless and makes you immediately jump to HT from lvl1 => THAT is what is boring, every single time
I can get like a headstart of having 3-4 skill points and 1 extra potion charge, but having 10 or 12 skill points ?, and then having 10 potions from lvl1 ? - come on
So here is a Game Master response to my real question:
When you create a new seasonal character in Season 8, the renown you achieved in Season 7 with your Sorcerer will carry over to your new character. However, this only applies to the highest renown you achieved across all your characters. So, if your Sorcerer has max renown, that will be the renown that carries over, regardless of the lower renown on your other builds. You do not need to delete the other characters; they will not affect the carryover of your Sorcerer’s renown.
At the end of Season 7, all your seasonal characters, including your Sorcerer, will be transferred to the Eternal Realm. This means you can continue to play them, and all items and progress will be retained.
For Season 8, you will need to create a new seasonal character to participate in the new season’s content. This character will start fresh but will benefit from the renown carryover from your highest renown character.
The renown system allows you to unlock various rewards and benefits, and the highest renown achieved will supersede the lower renown from your other builds. So, your Sorcerer’s max renown will be the one that counts moving forward.
In summary, you can keep your other builds without needing to delete them, and your Sorcerer’s max renown will carry over to your new character in Season 8.
