Re-design Diablo IV … for a Dad

I shoot competitively, work overtime, have a 3 year old belgian malinois to work and have 2 acres of property to take care of….on top of being a dad and husband putting out their fires all the time

Still plenty of time.

Maybe some time management is in order instead of trying to change the game into an everyone gets a trophy thing.

As it stands now, a player can get a character to 100 in about 10-15hrs of play time. If someone cannot do that with their schedule, in a few weeks, then they have zero to complain about.

There is zero excuse.

well, thats of course something one can wish for, but you know, some people like leveling.

you can play diablo 3 eventually? i mean, there are games for “casuals”.

I really just wish the game was more alt friendly. I got to 86 as a barb and I was honestly just bored. Doing rogue now and I find the playstyle more fun, but having to do the entire robot quest again is a huge pain.

I find criticism of the request for game changes to the author’s liking interesting since the vast majority of topics here are just that. Regardless, the duration of seasons ought to allow for full development of at least one character.

and they do. if you cant give 20hrs of time to a game in a 90day period that is on you. the game does not need to change for you

once you get over the learning curve, Diablo IV isn’t that bad. until you learn all the little tricks, making characters takes forevvvvvver. I can see how some ppl could get frustrated.

You cant play both WoW and D4 if you are a Dad with less play time. I ditched WoW for now for D4 as I cant do both at the same time.

I only reached level 93 on Season 1 due to boredom. On Season 2, they added Uber Bosses that served as my breakpoints toward level 100.

Do this breakpoints I copy/pasted from the other thread:

There are breakpoints toward level 100 that I use… all on Solo.

  • Capstone Elias to enter WT4- should do this by level 55… start a NM21 dungeon
  • Level 75 Varshan and Grigoire - should do this from level 70 to 75… progress more on Vault NM
  • Level 85 Lord Zir and Beast in Ice - should do this from level 80 to 85… progress more on Vault NM
  • Level 100 Duriel - should do this at level 90 to 100… progress more on Vault NM
  • Level 100 Malphas… ??? Havent done this as I just completed Duriel breakpoint at level 93 having NM80 on farm status.
  • Beat Vault NM100… Farm Vault NM100s
  • Complete the Seasonal Chapter that requires 5x level 15 glyphs
  • Do more Duriel - this time, aim for Uber Uniques
  • (Beat AoZ and level up its Tears of Glyph) - non existent on Season 3
  • Kill Uber Lilith

I never completed the whole thing. I stopped on endless chase on Duriel’s Uber Uniques and endless chase on level up Tears of Blood glyph on AoZ but able to beat AoZ with 3x non-meta builds. I dont have time for it just to cheese melt Uber Lilith.

Imo, they should take out Lilith’s one-shot kill mechanics and replace it maybe with two-shot kill… allowing us to have a chance/recover. I am willing to do the dance mechanics as long as it is fair. Currently, it’s unfair resulting to cheesing/melt her with Uber Uniques with high level Tears of Blood glyph as the only way to beat her which is stupid.

This isn’t meant as a flame, but it comes down to time management and spending that time efficiently. Now you say you’ve been gaming for the past 25 years, with mostly playing Diablo and WoW, not a bad way to spend your time by any means, but with a family comes more obligations. You can’t be that guy that used to spend hours playing video games anymore, it’s just never going to happen until your kids are out of the house, you retire, and if your s/o doesn’t want to constantly go on vacations to other places. It’s called becoming an adult.

Now thinking about things logically, what’s more likely to happen, them changing the whole game around to fit the needs of Dad’s with actual obligations in their life who only have 1 hour to spend a week on a game? Or you either finding more time to invest into the game or just giving up on the notion you can have your cake and eat it in 5 minutes flat?

Agreed, you don’t. This means the game isn’t for you, but you knew this going into the game, or at least I hope you did. If you bought it sight unseen without any research what so ever knowing how Blizzard games work (after all you’ve played them a majority of your life), that’s kind of on you. Now yes it’s not ideal, but this is the consequences of your own actions.

It’s not Blizzards fault you decided to have a family, a full time job, and not nearly enough time to play video games as much as you want. All they did was provide the entertainment to be played which does cater heavily to a more casual audience. However if they went anymore casual, then you’d be getting into D:Immortal territory, which might be more up your alley considering your time constraints. Yes it’s harsh, but again this is the reality you’ve chosen.

Why should they design a game for dads? That’s ridiculous.

They should design games for GAMERS.

Hey, there are Dad gamers. I understand the grind. D4 is casual-friendly… it means the grind is fair for Casuals. The game is beatable on NM100s and AoZ as Casual. Not Uber Lilith when playing non-meta build.

World of WarCraft too is Casual-friendly. We can still do raids and Mythic+ only up to Heroic Raid AoTC and KSM Keystone Master on Mythic+ which is decent. I was on Mythic Raiding when I was younger with no family obligations.

And besides, Dad has money to have powerful rigs to play this game.

As a dad with a job and all that D4 is the first game I’ve played that has any kind of time commitment in years. I’m able to do it now as my kid is a teenager now but I basically gave up gaming for a long time.

It sucks but that’s the choices you make when you start a family and I don’t expect gaming companies to dumb down their gaming to fit into my lifestyle choices. Although now I’m happy to have gaming back in my life i made the right choice to stop at the time.

And that is fine, as long as they are a gamer. I don’t have anything against gamer dads.

Gamers find a way to get a rig to play the games they want, whether they have the money or need to find the money.

The game already is this, it doesn’t need to be changed.

Judging by the number of fundamental changes you want made, it sounds like this game isn’t for you, or you need to budget your time differently. You’re basically asking the NHL to change its rules so hockey is played in sneakers at a gym because you can’t be bothered to learn how to ice skate.

This has to be a troll. Muh gamer dad meme, no time, plays an MMO, wants everything catered to them.

You’re the wrong demographic.

Up here they do play hockey in a gym in sneakers, with a ball even.

Of course that’s during the summer when half of the arenas are closed because it costs way too much to maintain the ice during those warm months. You can still play ice hockey at a few and it’s still more popular than ball hockey for sure.

Much like ARPG’s some are more popular than others and enjoyed only by a few!

Are Dads the new Karen or something? I keep coming across “I’m a dad” threads demanding that games cater to them more.

See im a dad, and i don’t want to do endgame. I want to do everything else. Endgame is when you go on the rat wheel and do the same things over and over and over again.

I guess you could say the same about alts… but at least you get some time playing differently.

Also the levels you quote are exactly the same as what i have achieved. I think its more boredom and pointlessless where even reality becomes more fun than playing diablo at those levels. What does endgame do? Guess what… all that gear is pointless apart from having it. You’ll never need it…
