QUESTION: Mired Sharpshooter + Explosive Verve + Trickster’s aspects = Caltrops projectile cause Ambush and Deadly Ambush bonuses?

I have not found an answer online and my testing is inconclusive.

Does Mired Sharpshooter + Explosive Verve + Trickster’s aspects make Caltrops now a marksman AND trap skill?

NOTE: in testing, Mired Sharpshooter + Trickster’s + FROSTBITTEN causes the Mired Sharpshooter projectiles to freeze enemies meaning the projectiles have gained grenade benefits. Adding TRICKSTER’S aspect should make grenade skills trap skills. But with Exposure, enemies hit by these modified Mired caltrops projectiles DO NOT proc Expoure grenades when hit, but the grenades within the caltrops DO cause Exposure grenades to proc. This shows that the Mired projectiles gain the Frostbitten grenade benefits, but not the Explosive Verve grenade benefits. Does anyone know if the projectiles gain the Ambush and Deadly Ambush damage bonuses?

Sounds like an ‘order of operation’ issue. You need to be able to chain the effect. One proc another, that proc something else. Simultaneous effects are buggy.

Caltrops is a base trap skill. You need only Mired Sharpshooter to make it also a marksman skill.

Explosive Verve makes grenades count as trap skills, not Trickster.

I haven’t tested it, but Exposure is based on lucky hit and Caltrops projectiles probably have zero or very low lucky hit chance. Frostbitten works because it requires only hitting enemies, and the chance to freeze is based on your crit chance instead of lucky hit chance.

Saboteur’s Signet adds lucky hit chance to stun grenades.

Enemies are considered affected by trap only if they’re in an active trap or afflicted with the harmful effect caused by the trap.

If enemies are frozen by the projectiles due to Trickster and Frostbitten, then they should be affected by Ambush and Deadly Ambush.

The first projectile that freezes the enemy won’t gain damage bonuses from Ambush and Deadly Ambush unless the enemy is inside caltrops, but subsequent projectiles should gain those damage bonuses while enemy is frozen.

Thank you very much. After I posted, I figured out that Mired makes Caltrops a Trap AND a Marksman skill, I thought Mired made Caltrops JUST a Marksman skill - losing damage bonuses to Trap skills. This is why I thought Explosive Verve and Trickster’s (along with Mired) would make it both. Then, the projectiles freezing enemies with Frostbitten made me think that ENIMIES HIT BY MIRED PROJECTILES WERE CONSIDERED AFFECTED BY TRAP SKILLS, but this was contradicted by Exposure grenades failing to proc when I hit enemies (Heartseeker) that had been hit by Mired projectiles (whether recently frozen by the projectiles or currently frozen by projectiles). I found no affix combination that caused Exposure grenades to proc when Mired-projectile-hit enemies were hit by Heartseeker. This is why I was skeptical that Mired-projectile-hit enemies were considered “affected by a trap skill”.

As far as the eye test, Mired + Tricksters + Frostbiten was DEVASTATING with a Paingorger/Shard/Heartseeker build . . . Until I got to the 129 pit boss. lol
