Or they can change them to red, like that old D3 prank with the photoshopped red beam that whipped the forums into a frenzy, and later became the primal beam.

I would prefer it to be bloody red, but I have no problem with the light beam.
The feeling you’re looking for is still there, it’s just been changed to “oh god, did I get the right Mythic?”
And the feeling has also always been there during the death of the Boss… that moment when you know you have defeated him, but you still don’t know what he has given you.
To be honest, this to me is proof that you really don’t like what you say you like, and maybe you yourself haven’t realized it.
(Basically you say that you like the “surprise” or the “expectation”… but there are a lot of moments where you can feel them.)
And I absolutely disagree with you, this was pretty neat change.
last season I ended up with 3 Sparks separate from the season-end 4th because I insta-salvaged useless stuff that simply wasn’t marked as anything other as “Ancestral Unique” so I had no idea what was uber and what wasn’t 
I do distinctly recall salvaging a Starless Skies that I got from Andariel but had no clue it was “uber” because it was pure 
Exactly why purple beam was necessary
I don’t know why the color, but the beam is so you don’t miss it.
(It even has a different sound when it appears)
I want them to go farther and make it purplier with more GA on the mythical!
The thing that throws me off with the purple beam for these is that I played WoW for years and purple was Epic and orange was Legendary (the higher tier).
I actually like it as I can tell if I got an Uber or not.
The gear tiers should be
White and Blue removed. Nobody cares about normal items or magic items.
Rare - Yellow
Legendary - Orange
Epic - Purple. Epic items are like legos but have 2 inherents
Unique - Teal
Mythical - Red
