protection never stacked from casting multiple cooldown abilities though… it only ever refreshed, and that’s what we’re seeing in the video. The only reason you’re going above 2551 shield in the video is because ice shield’s barrier stacks with protection.
Lots of people are misunderstanding their barrier amounts pre-patch vs post-patch because of how the indicator worked prepatch vs postpatch. The barrier indicator used to have a blue cover that climbed up the health bar based on how much barrier you had, it doesn’t anymore.
The thing is people are actually misunderstanding how that indicator worked, the blue bar potentially climbed your entire health bar, so people think they were getting a barrier equal to their maximum health. Instead you have a barrier cap equal to the base health of your class, and the barrier indicator spanned the full length of your health bar not when your barrier was equal to your max health, but when your barrier hit the barrier cap; so people think they were getting their max health in barrier because of how they remember the indicator working (spanning the whole health bar), but they never were, and without the indicator working like it did pre-patch they’re thinking somethings wrong, to which they test how much barrier they’re getting and noting that they aren’t getting a barrier equal to their max health. Then they’re thinking that’s an undocumented discrepancy between pre and post patch when the only discrepancy between pre and post patch here is how the barrier indicator works.
For proof that you weren’t getting your max health as a barrier (or anything close) pre-patch. Check this post, it was made 20 days before the patch and the poster talked about the issues he thought the sorcerer had that made the class so weak. One of those issues documented was as follows:
You cannot increase the max value of any barrier beyond the base lvl 100 health of Sorc @ 7959hp. Even stacked on +hp sources and reaching 16k hp, you can never have a barrier stronger than 7959hp.
To give you some perspective on how far 7959 is below what a level 100 sorcerer might have, my sorcerer has 18k+ health. I’ve never been able to have barrier larger than 7959 even pre patch.
