I personally don’t play on console, so maybe I don’t have the right answer here, but I would have thought you would purchase the game from the console’s store, not Blizzard, right? I didn’t even know they sold the console games directly on their site.
All you are doing with the account linking is to share data between the console and Blizzard for the servers and world connection… I think.
Maybe I’m wrong here. But it almost sounds like perhaps you bought the PC version? Now I got to go look and see. Will update in a sec.

So from my alt account which has not bought the game, it only seems to allow me to pick the game and it looks for a windows install.
However below that it shows supported on:
- Windows
- Xbox Series X|S
- Xbox One
- PlayStation®5
- PlayStation®4
So the details are vague. I don’t think the version sold on Blizzard’s site runs anywhere but on Windows PC. But the game is supported on those consoles?
So it sounds like (and I could be wrong) that the game needs to be purchased from those console stores instead of Blizzard’s website. And if that’s the case, then it would be a refund and then order from them… I think.
Hopefully someone with a better answer can verify.
