Potential gem bug

Maybe I imagined this but wanted to post to see if anyone else can recreate it.

I had 2 of the grand ruby gems in my helm. I wanted to see just how much damage the 120 strength was adding so I replaced them with green gems. Look at the stat sheet again and the damage on the strength tool top dropped by about 10%.

But here’s where the bug might be. I put the red gems back in and the strength went higher than it was before I initially took them out. I did the same thing again on my pants and got the same result. More strength total than I had before swapping out and back in again.

Over time I had been replacing lower level gems with higher ones and I’m thinking perhaps it had a lower gem stats snap shotted and didn’t actually update it until I had a different gem in place.

Anyone able to replicate?

Sorry to see you are having this issue but glad to see i’m not alone.
I’ve been seeing the exact same issue with Grand Rube gems, at least the past week or two, can’t say for sure if it actually affects your damage and other stats, or if it’s just showing us incorrect numbers, but as far as what’s presented to us, it seems to be affecting all game systems, like for example i’m not triggering some bonus effects on some paragon nodes unless i do the “gem swap/reapply thing” so my max life is also lowered by the bug.

I can replicate the bug at any time with 100% certainty, in fact it reoccurs every time i enter a dungeon/instance or teleport to town, pretty much every time there’s a loading screen it’s back.

Please tell me this works with weapon’s gems too :smirk:

I think I saw a streamer video where they said this is a known exploit. I also seem to recall something saying gem swapping in Pits has been disabled to prevent this exploit.

I’m not sure what triggered it, I had something similar the other day where my attack power showed different values and there was no change to my character (at least, not one that I kept between the times I checked) and no procs or buffs were up either time.)

The fact that for as long as I can remember, the life value in the globe can mismatch with the character sheet or even heal a few points above its maximum lets me know the math is either just bad or different appearances of the same data are using different formulas instead of just referencing the result of one.

I know some of it is rounding but my current life shouldn’t be 13 higher than my max. If X > Y then X = Y is not rocket science.

Not sure how it would be an exploit when it’s decreasing your strength. It seems like it’s not properly adding the new amount when you upgrade the gem.

Odd question for you, are you dropping your gems on top of the previous ones in your gear, or are you taking the gems out first at the jeweler, and then putting the new gems in?

The bug may have something to do with swapping out gems on the fly and not un-socketing them first. Best idea I can come up with anyway.

That was my thought too. Swapping them is what i was doing. I’m not sure it’s actually changing my strength value or just what’s displayed in the char sheet. Takes too much effort to keep doing it every time I load a new instance so I just been living with it.
