A possible resonable fix for the necromancer power creep that i propose is:
Revert all nerfs on the minions and add the following mechanic.
Maintaning Minions takes a toll on the necromancer, for each minion active, the necromancer loses 10% of his damage( from spells that arent related to minions). So a necromancer with 4 skelleton warriors and 3 skelleton mages would deal only 30% of his max damage… if you add the golem it should be further down to 20%.
Curses should remain as they are right now, only direct damage spells should suffer from that.

Minions are fine. They buffed them. Blizzard isn’t gonna listen to your convoluted plan just stop

why convoluted, this change would create a build dedicated to minion mancer or a spell caster… since you can chose to not summon minions to get a decent buff…
No, we need to see how they perform with all points invested and paragon board bonus.
Sounds good to me, when I had to completely abandon skeletons to stand a chance against Ashava, being a pet based class without pets seems rather stupid.
After the hotfix you didn’t really have a problem with minions dying like they were before. Completely agree that the minion based class shouldn’t have been forced to play without them.
Dungeon bosses killed them in 1 hit before hotfix, 2-3 after, didn’t die in first beta allowing me to nuke down boss while pets kept them occupied.
They skeletons weren’t destroying bosses, they just kept them off my necro.
If the solution is to wait for paragon, gee, imagine how much more powerful my rogue will be with paragon.
I’ll pass and watch necros get destroyed until they realize they shouldn’t have been nerfed in the first place.
They still did this for me. It just wasn’t as mindless.
I think they just need to add a reduction for AOE damage vs minions past the first minion hit so a boss won’t just do 1 aoe attack and 1shot all your minions, and you can use the golem taunt to make it tank for your minion army.
you want and army to take No damage, thats god mode. that wont happen.
Excellent idea
Being focused on skeletons and nothing else.
I value the specialization.

Diablo 2 were if im not mistaken necromancer in diablo games begun, you had 3-4 skill trees… summonin bones curses and poison if not mistaken. you could not have everything. the way necro is in D4, you passivaly get minions, (sure you can buff them spending incredible 4 points)… theres no commitment to one build… you can get minions on the side
The game is about to launch, next.
yeah because they cant do rebalancing after the release.
I think I’d rather see the toll come off of HPs rather than damage. The more minions you have, the fewer HPs you have.
Basically, the more you rely on minions to do your damage for you (thus not having to focus on doing damage yourself), the more important it becomes to avoid getting damaged yourself.
There are something like 15 or 16 nodes that interact with minions in some way plus legendary aspects, and Paragon Board nodes and glyphs. You can use skeletons without choosing any of these upgrades but they would be pretty weak as a result.
still is free stuff being given per level… you put guardian skelletons and buff HP aand you get decent cover for you for a few seconds…
What i want is not a half asset minions that you have to deal damage to complete.
I wish the necromancer is either the minions do your job, and you need to use curses and other mechanics to keep them, while you the caster is near useless, or you are a powerfull caster but dont have minions… i belive this is the only way they can trully make a pure minion mancer without breaking the game… because if you try to give both minions and spells, it always will be broken with a full build, or it will be useless without one…
Lazy builds shouldn’t be strong builds. Minions are fine.
why, if you every played d2, minion build was strong pve. but the moment a barbarian charged strait up to necro, he was done for. because the necromancer itself was weak while relied all its power to the horde… im not asking to make the minions stronger for free, i just saying it should have a trade off, either strong minions and no strengh with the necro itself. or the other way around… not both
A good plan to kill the fun! I like casting spells and raising skeletons, it’s the classic necromancer fantasy. So now Id have to choose one or the other, greeeat. Necros are well-balanced now, silly people wanting an invincible skeleton group… they are skeletons, not arch-liches. So grateful to Blizz for their intelligence.
