The genre is in the spotlight- now they just need to put out actual good competitors. D2 didn’t have competition, D3 didn’t have competition… maybe Titan Quest 2 and Path of Exile 2 can rise up and act as legitimate competitors. Time will tell.
Gauntlet Dark Legacy was fun but lack of itemization or character builds kept it from being a direct competitor. Fun game though.
Path of Exile? Grim Dawn? Torchlight 2?
The question is more was D3 a competitor?

I’ve seen a lot of your posts but none of them are discussing Diablo. I flagged them all for you.
POE 2 is years away yet- If anything, they should see some spikes due to D4 and folks mentioned POE. I played POE, my only issue with that game was the 8.6 Million Currency components. It dilutes the game if you ask me, my only complaint there.

I was fan of TL1, play a lot but TL2 I think they abuse on the (ugly) cartoonish style.
For myself just now after update I get into the game just to see after 1 weeks, you never know…I was BORE to DEAD and FREEZE (Windows11) to dead !
I even pray to meet the Butcher (I really hate him before! ), and maybe he save/kill me from this boredom …
Ok now …TASK MANAGER > KILL DIABLO 4 ! …

Titans quest was alright and all. But it is still a single player game with coop not a multiplayer game. Get like a week out of it and you are done. As much as people complain about seasons there is NO Arpg that lasts long without them.
Tell that to Grim Dawn 
Because Diablo 4 players are looking for good games to play while they wait for this one to be fixed

Never played it but doubt it lasts very long. Only game i know that has enough game to last without seasons is PoE and even it would only be a month or two depending on your playtime.
Grim Dawn IMO is by far still the best ARPG on the market. It’s got multiplayer IF you want it…otherwise the game is vast and deep and the builds and itemization is very very well done. It was also made from the old TQ engine…but looks leaps and bounds better than TQ ever did. It also has a bit more end game than D2 did nothing spectacular though.

Yes, Grim Dawn is the best one on the market…so far. I can’t wait to see what TQ2 brings to the table, as well as PoE2, and hopefully a GD2. Maybe we’ll even see a revival of Dungeon Siege and NoX! Having more options for games simply brings more ideas for people to play around with.

D4 is not a great game. It was not worth the $100.00.
Is it ok, sure - is it great, no.
The reason people bring in games like POE 2 (almost 100% free), BG3, TQ 2, etc. is that these games a feature rich and strive to make the PLAYER happy, not be a cash grab.
If a game like POE, which is free, offers in-game cosmetics for $$$ I am more apt to buy alot of those if they are making me happy playing the game. I am willing to pay because I enjoy it.
Games like BG3 are just near perfect for the $60.00.
D4 , on the other hand, is a hot mess. I paid $100.00 and it is the last money I will every spend on it. I got to play S1 and it was trash. Eternal is fine if I want to continue to play, but most likely after S1 this gets removed to save space for games that deserve to take up SSD space.
The problem with franchises like this is that they can release literal BETA quality games, you all will just soak it up and play. You will suffer through bad design in game, bad features, improper ban waves that hit players not cheating, just so much failure.
