Indeed, Butcher is named as one of the rare Bosses who is kind of “fun” to combat. I don’t think so anymore.
At first contact, he just moped the floor with me. Later I could just face-tank him - maybe because I had so much active heal.
If you can tank his damange, it becomes a grind to down his barrier and to chip his hp. His Defensive Powers are just massively overscaled over the regular mobs deff.
Also, all is Offensive Powers are just overtuned to undermine all of your chars skills:
highest running speed - no escaping;
instant despawn - no recharging;
highest attack speed - no dodging telegraphed attacks;
changing aggro target - no tanking in front of DDs;
…
I fear, he is just conceptualized as a “you die” button in earlier stages … later, with exponentially overshooting power of aspect synergies, he luckily becomes handleable. But since his drop doesn’t usefully scale with the effort he becomes an annoyance instead of an worthy challenge.
Verdict: Pile of “unfresh” meat. 
Bonus: I lately noticed music is changing in his vincinity, even before he notices you. So sharpen your ears for a switch in tune!
Can’t say I ever encountered a stalemate and I play HC so tend to make extra tanky characters. One of us is usually always the clearly favored one in terms of damage. Sounds like your dps is too low maybe?
I think he might also inherit the NM dungeon affixes but I’m not sure about this.
Well i am 78 and he was a 75, in just a grim dungeon so normal.
I was hurting him, it was the heals from me and him that was like got me going well okay this is pointless…not going to play this one out. So yeah maybe when i got tired i would eventually fail to manage self heals and potion management. and he would win.
I wasnt willing to try though.
But i got a tip that he only heals from front attacks so next time i will kite and only attack with the backstab.
It’s low for butcher , everything else is fine, i can make it higher i just like the fun build.
Sadly its not the strongest DPS…
I’ve only played sorc and necro to high level so far… in my experience butcher does a lot of damage and will shred me if I just stay right next to him for too long without some form of defensive cooldown constantly running.
If you’re playing a build that can face tank him all day but can’t kill him then I’m inclined to say you made too much of a tank which is really not ideal. It’s great to play your own builds and I do too mostly but you still need a decent balance of offense vs defense if you intend to play solo and not fulfill a certain group role.
He does. I’ve seen him enraged with the avenger affix.
I think Vampiric can be dodged.

There is a dragging chains sound effect and a huffing/grunting. Goblins also have a sound. However, both are faint and very easy to miss.

YES! I had a Butcher get really big. Their physical size increases with each enrage.

I recently heard the change in music again! Two encounters. You can sharpen you ears again.

It’s funny but as a Pulverising bear the more mobs I drag him into the more he sucks…. I just ignore him and just keep kiting him into packs as going toe to toe with him seems painful.
He is just really difficult from a technique stand point if you cant face tank him. I really had a super hard time with him on rogue. On barb he is like BBQ chicken. He seems to do worse in density for sure.
DO NOT BE ALONE WITH THE BUTCHER. lol
my advice is try to save a shrine or 2 when you dont need it. This will help you a lot when you see a butcher. Secondly, dont run try tanking or kiting him between some obstacle or pillar, activate marry go round for cooldown.
Which is pretty accurate in this case. Seems like OP is fighting him in a NMD with unfavourable affixes with a build that could use some work. But without knowing what that build is it’s hard to provide meaningful advice.
Lol it is not, It was a normal dungeon and i out scaled him, i may need to make it more clear, i thought not mentioning N/M would make that clear i guess not.
A little trick that made me win against him : Put teleport enchantment, then use boots with +evade charges.
Put three points in Protection, find a spot where he have to turn around something to reach you. A stalagmite can do.
Use shimmering flame shield to break stuns and heal. If you have the ice armor aspect that grant unstoppable, use it.
Then pick Hydra. Better with the Serpentine aspect.
Cast Hydra and use everything else to escape.
Timing is key. Especially on flame shield. 
If done right, he’ll be kited to death.
You mentioned vampiric which would place you in a NMD as he only gains shields
So he must have spawned bugged or something i was doing a normal dungeon. Grim favor.
If i was doing a N/M at 78 he wouldn’t have spawned as a white 75. that is why i was like why is he vamping me and non stop like no chance to avoid it was dumb, because he didnt hurt me, i just wasted my time, was impossible.
I am thinking he spawned bugged out at this point. I saw he again later and he was normal but bugged out and ran around in circles around the room was pretty funny.
EDIT- No Advice needed, i would have asked and shared the build deets if that was the point of the convo.
If you can’t kill the butcher something is extremely wrong with your character

At this point pretty sure i got a bugged spawn, since i have learned he wasn’t suppose to have vampric powers, causing this odd stalemate.
Was insane because i was not expecting WT4 butcher by default to have vampric, as a melee character that is absurd for normal runs.
