ℹ Nov 12, Campfire Q&A w/ Bonus Dupe Twitter Response

They’re not buffing so that all classes can do quintillions of damage. Again, that amount of damage is due to bugs and unintended interactions.

Again, you’re basing on what certain SB builds do now and not what they are supposed to do.

why cant we got a WW buff? yeah you can do tier 80 and it takes 15 years. but i wanna kill still like we used to and have fun like the spiritborn its fun and fast. and build you hit slowly and move around slowly just isnt fun after playing builds that move like that. make more movement style builds and buff the good ones rogue, DK. wizard freezing teleporting spec. whirlwind barb.

That is all they said on twitter about Dupes?

They need to prevent them from happening.

Playing Whack a Dupe is never going to work. Its a hopeless fight.

Well they did say: ‘Dupes get investigated and stamped out via fixes.’

Asking them to find every method of duping before hand would be near impossible. QA testers don’t work like that, they are assigned specifics to test, not go out of their way to try and break the code using odd methods. QA testers quite literally don’t have the time for that. Also why it’s very rare they would find half the stuff streamers and other players do.

On Urza question about the stack sizes of boss materials and such… they also said something about being worried about dupes and things and thats why its a longer out thing.

Direct quote from Colin F. “We are looking into it, there are things on our side in terms of storage and duping that we’re a little bit worried about, but we’re looking at making a change sometime in the longer future.”

There is no excuse. This is their code. They should know how to prevent dupes by now. I cant accept the current cycle of having dupes every single season. Prevent them in the first place. That is how you stop dupes.

Lets start making some real progress here and stamp out dupes permanently. Figure it out. You have millions of $ to throw at it.

Yes. I feel like if you are going to do a thread like this then that should have been in there, no?

Sign up to be a QA tester and see how it’s done, that’s all I can say. It’s not an excuse, it’s reality at this point. Any programmer will tell you there is no countermeasure for a user of the program they just created.

Think of it this way. You own a car, you protect it in every way possible, you have an alarm system, Low-Jack, key fobs, etc. However you can’t prevent a random person driving by from crashing into your parked car. It’s not like your car was sticking out either or you were parked incorrectly, you did everything right. The person who ran into you is a random user that just found a bug.

Now picture that same scenario, but some jerk is going around with a tow truck stealing cars. That’s your cheaters.

The cheating community will always find ways to actually break the game. This is true of any game. While I think D4 is pretty bad in this regard, there is no completely stopping it. That community lives for this stuff and they are very good at what they do. You will not find a game where stuff like this doesn’t happen.

I try to summarize as much as possible, so that’s on me, fixed it.

Yeah, I get it. Im not trying to badger you. Thank you for doing this. I just thought it was an important comment.

No you’re right, and I had it in there originally, but I lost my draft (stupid forum) and was kind of in a rush to get it out there, there’s no excuse for that and I need to do better.

saying its their code is pretty silly. you could load up any game and there are cheats to it. look at fps games and how people still get around anti-cheat to wallhack and aimbot. cheaters are always going to find a way to break the game. blizzard discovers a duping method and ties it off and then the cheaters find a new way. that is how game development works. the studio is always 1 step behind and playing catch up to the cheaters

Just full on participation trophy…everyone is a winner. So after less than 2 weeks and every class and build is done with the season because they face roll it like a broken SB then what? Quite telling you want the whole game to be based off of a horribly broken class. Im all for balance, just not d3 OP BS. I couldnt imagine enjoying a game where every class is OP AF and rolls content. More like a kiddie game, almost d3esque, think touch football. I stopped playing the SB because it was such a face roll, couldnt imagine a whole game based on such easy content

Awful big task you are throwing at blizzard, heard after nearly 15 months they almost figured out how to add proper chat channels, give them another 2 to 3 years for this issue to be solved

Wait where did you hear this? Gonna need a source. I don’t believe you, you’re giving them too much credit.

You mean now while we’re actually playing this season? Crazy, right? That people might actually want some semblance of balance. They might expect some serious justification for it besides “Whoopsie. We didn’t catch that in alpha or beta, but everyone likes it so let it ride - maybe they’ll buy cosmetics!”

There’s a really easy fix for this. Bring back sacred items. Sacred items would have the ability to roll with max aspects, but retain the normal item affix ranges, providing a modest but needed progression boost while the ancestrals would be where the beefier boost is via the increased affix and aspect ranges. At least this way players would get some progression while continuing to hunt for those ancestrals with the much needed higher stats + GA(s).

I had the idea of just having Ancestral Aspects start above the cap of the 750 items. So if it’s a 1-10% Aspect, 750 caps at 8%, Ancestral starts at 9%, just an example.

I’m not entirely sure they would bring back Sacred items just to fill in the gap so to speak without also implementing some fundamental change back to items. 750 is the cap for normal items, so 800-850 would have to be sacred, then 900+ for Ancestral, and we’re back to where we started.
