Definitely hearing the feedback on the Necro nerfs. I’m feeling 'em too. Remember, balance is journey, not a destination - it takes tweaking to get it right.

I hope not. I like having to manage my minions. I’d rather they balance some of the boss fights to have adds earlier, or more of them. Most of the boss fights have adds, and those fights are fine. It’s the few that have them later in the fight or not at all that are more difficult for necromancers relying on minions. The need to manage the minions is a great change. It was too passive before and didn’t feel anything like a necromancer. It was a summon one time and then pretend you were playing a wow shadow priest.
They can’t be dying so fast. Having to keep resummoning them is a PITA.
Necro best class now. Awesome
he doesn’t say they are being reverted, though
Haha helps when one of the upper execs mains a class. Now if only one of them would main Barb…
It’s blizzard-speak.
Saying the nerf was too much is not the same as saying it will be reverted.
I sure also hope it wont be.
But if they were nerfed a bit too much, then sure, make readjustments.
Imo it is bad if bosses must be designed in specific ways to work. PoE had some of the same issue imo due to the flask recharge mechanism.
Maybe they just need to figure out a way Necromancer can work without a constant supply of corpses.
How about the necro summons much weaker versions of skeletons when they got no fresh corpses around?
Agreed.
nah atm necro is boring its like a summon simulator
Managing minions does not have to mean constantly needing to reanimate them.
its touchy since they got the best damage in the game currently anyways.
buff others too if youre buffing necro back
or have 90% of ppl be necro i guess.
*then again no idea about endgame. ppl have said necro was already bad at end game.
It’s not bad to manage them more, but what we have right now is god awful.
Sadly that damage does not compensate for the level of squishyness
Which means they will adjust it, but don’t get your heart set on reverting them exactly.
I am very glad to hear they are going to review the Necro though.
Blizzard’s normal “balancing” tests are done by skewing it very far one way then collecting feedback, skewing the other way and collecting feedback. The extremes generate a lot more data using the in game data collection systems, and more comments.
They talked about why the test servers tend to be like that during a D3 dev talk at some point. I had not even considered it, but they are right that the larger swings do generate more buzz and data.
The end result is normally something closer to the middle.
Need to make them not die as much so they benefit more from spec’ing into hp/dmg talents, and prob super tanky if using shield skeles.
My only real complaint on this basically.
Someone didn’t play necro this beta, every boss AoE clears the whole army, it’s stupid and if you think it’s okay then your opinion is less than worthless.
Said they would do this the second they announced the changes on the post beta feedback blog.
That’s not to say minions should be immortal, far from it, but balancing minion survivability within this system is tricky due to cascade failure. It’s not just cascade failure due to running out of corpses, it’s also the Priest potentially not being up to give you one of your largest minion damage buffs.
This is all why Army of the Dead exists, to recover from cascade failure, which will certainly help this later in the game. Right now, though, your minions get 2 shot in the tutorial dungeon, and that just feels really bad, especially to newer players who may be looking at the class for a chill playstyle.
Sad day. I liked this level of challenge and thought. However, I realize they have to build to the majority if they want their money, so I guess I’m just settling for whatever kind of “wannabe necromancer but I am actually a shadow priest” build we end up with.
There are ways to mitigate that, and unfortunately they’ve already spoken about how it’s intentional. If you want them to read anything - go to reddit. Blizzard forums are a red herring.
This they went to heavy handed with the nerfs and also since lots of builds kind of want certain legendaries the drop rate on those need adjusting up a little so it doesn’t require 12hrs+ a day no lifer grinding to actually get some.
This is common wisdom for balancing. When you make a change either double it or cut it in half.
I was think about a small tweak that could make this feel better, and I wonder if having the priest deliver a big DR buff instead of the healing would be a good answer. They wouldn’t heal, so you’d eventually have to respawn them, but timing the priest could let you avoid big aoe hits once you knew the pattern.
