Native Steam Deck support requires a 2nd purchase?!?!?!

Yeah Borderlands didn’t do that…

If you want me to research for you… pay me. Otherwise go look goofy on your own time.

Can you prove it’s Blizzard? I see no reason it benefits Valve AT ALL to put millions of free AAA game copies on their platform especially when the game is not even a year old.

Sounds like more mob mentality pitchfork anti-Blizz paranoia.

and how did you do that considering it’s not available until the 17th?

It is incredibly easy to add D4 to steam and play it on the steam deck using the battle.net copy.

Because you can add non-steam games to your steam library and launch them through there. It’s been like that forever.

Certainly! It can be a bit tricky depending on the game, but can be done for most.

BUT

It requires a client change of the D4 game to work properly with Steam features such as the ones above. That does mean creating and maintaining a separate version of the game client. That takes us up to 4 clients that get updated separately per patch with maybe more someday?:

  • Playstation
  • Xbox
  • Bnet launcher/PC
  • Steam/ PC
  • Switch someday?
  • Mac someday? (not likely)
  • Mobile ?(hopefully not)

At the moment their model for Diablo is to purchase it separately for each version of the game client you want.

Now, if someone does not feel it is worth it to get the version for Steam with proper Steam features, they should certainly not spend money on it. I don’t really do Steam so not my thing.

Do we know what the price will be? I don’t see it on the Steam page but I might be old and blind.

I could see a huge blowback if they lowered the price off the bat. The game isn’t even a year old. It would be a punch in the face to both those asking for refunds and those who still support the current model.

i meant like i said in my post : game with proper launcher from company like ubisoft not any kind of game , i know very well multiple non steam game can be added on steam i did it multiple times.

but in my time anyway, don’t know if it changed , you couldn’t add game that were from uplay for example
you don’t know how to read it seem seeing your reply assuming i said “any non steam game” which i didn’t.
especially for someone this childishly insulting…

This is just dead dead wrong lol. Why do you confidently spout a completely wrong answer?

All paradox interactive games launch through steam through the paradox launcher, Civ works the same way - launch in steam go through 2K launcher. POE you can go through Steam or the GGG launcher and access the same account. All 2k sports games work this way. Madden (which I ended up refunding after 10 minutes) works this way. On and on and on. You could not be more wrong.

Half the games in my steam library work this way. So again why do you so confidently spout wrong answers? I would hate to work with you or even interact with you in real life.

once again read my post which was posted right earlier than yours. (a few min back)
i meant game that were from things like uplay
also no i never once said this “confidently” as i said “personally” which is similar to “in my experience” which can be false since it’s from a while back and i never tried everygame and it could have been updated since then.
and i haven’t ever tried 2K launcher or paradox personally.

as soon as someone say “personally” it’s not “confident” as you seem to think “universal proof” or something.

it’s like me talking about “rappelz” which didn’t work on steam at the time for example since it had it’s proper launcher.
these are examples , of course it doesn’t apply to all and multiple could have been updated since then.

Right like games that launch normally from the Paradox or 2K launcher like the ones I described?

Please, tell me who makes Anno 1800

I actually read what you said and purposefully picked a game that uses one of these unique launchers (specifically Ubisoft), but instead of taking 2 seconds to google who makes Anno 1800 to verify that I was actually correct, you felt the need to defend your post even though it’s not true.

MS says hi.

can buy it once on XB/PC & play it on other w/o buying it again.

First off, you added D4 as a non-steam game, and second, the game isn’t available via Steam yet, meaning you can’t purchase it yet anyway.

So, that doesn’t apply to the problem at hand.

I have to agree at a certain level here. If you are going to add games to a platform that can be used alongside the platform the game comes from, it should not be charged for.

However:

A Steam Deck in my opinion is akin to a console. In that regard, yes it should have a separate cost.

If you are playing from PC, and want to use either your Battlenet client or the Steam client, then it makes sense to have it be added automatically and without additional costs. From the description I read however, it looks to still require Battlenet to operate, so who knows. Maybe it won’t require additional purchase.

Those claiming the game launches the battlenet app right now (even though its added as a non-steam game) are correct. Even the normal Diablo IV shortcut will fire up the launcher. And this interaction is likely to continue even once the game is actually added to the Steam library via Steam.

They’ll do it in the future pretending that “they heard us”. But it’s clear they are just trying to get the initial box sales for those who are willing to buy a second copy for steam deck access. This company is not ethical and only cares about money. It’s a sad state.

That makes much more sense to me.

I think maybe this is being blown out of proportion to some degree. If people can migrate it now, what’s the difference outside of the achievements and the steam deck side of things.

But I gotta ask, if you buy the steam version, does that give you access to the bnet version and hence it’s a one way street?

Why buy out of blizzard’s store again?

I think the better question is why the lack of transparency on things like this.

All it does is foster an angrier playerbase.

Sure, being transparent has its risks, but honestly, more of us would respect them better for it.

But that’s me.

Have you seen how much they charge for skins? Are you surprised? They spend far more time figuring out monetization than they do gameplay.

You’re right. D4 is already a PR disaster over the last 1-2 months with all the streamers and media negativity.

so you purchased anno 1800 from uplay and can add it to your steam library for free? i own every red alert game in origin but i cannot add them to steam library for free, but maybe i am just missing something.
