The cost just to file is 2 - 3x more than the game cost.
They absolutely could.
It isn’t necessary to use the same payment option to refund the money.
If they wanted they could even send someone in person to pay it back in cash - or they could take the reasonable route of simply refunding it in the form of balance on the account.
The truth is that they don’t want to issue a refund and come up with lame excuses.
A friend of mine bought the game at the start of season one, spent over 2 hours in queue and requested a refund the very same day.
They refused and he opened a case on PayPal.
If their claim that they are not obliged to issue a refund because he “played” the game for too long would have been true, they could have challenged the case to keep the money, but they immediately agreed to refund after he took the case to PayPal, because their claims were a bunch of nonsense and they knew it.
Looking around online. Looks like this card makes refunds impossible for tons of companies because it’s anonymous and thus they can’t send the money back. Seeing this with Skype, GoG, Steam, and more. You maybe able to get a credit to your battle.net account and use it for another title, but looks like you can’t get the money sent back.
It is not about wanting a refund that people are “defensive”. If a customer is within the refund policy (14 days of purchase and not more than 2 hours played), they DESERVE a refund.
However, the policy also clarifies that the payment type matters. It seems the payment method the OP used is not one that can be refunded and comes with warnings about it.
They used a Gift Card type payment, not a normal credit card or PayPal account. The card was called my paysafecard. It seems to be sort of a gift card type service that does not connect to banking info or a credit card. From the payment method website.
- Without a bank account Pay online without a bank account or credit card.
- Secure and carefree We don’t need any of your personal details.
If they had used a different payment method they would have been able to refund it. They point out that not all payment methods can be refunded in the Refund Policy.
We’ve posted this policy to make our refund philosophy clear around purchases made from Blizzard on Battle.net. This document is part of our official Terms of Sale.
Our Philosophy
We believe in our mission to create epic entertainment experiences, and we want you to feel confident you’re getting the product and support you expect from Blizzard.
If you change your mind about a recent purchase, or if you haven’t used it, we’ll try to work with you on a refund.
We may withdraw refund eligibility for abuse of this policy, such as repeated refunds for the same product. The same goes for violations of the In-Game Code of Conduct or the End User License Agreement.
How to Request a Refund
You can usually request a refund automatically using our support site and selecting the relevant game or product.
We will typically refund purchases to the method of payment used for the original transaction. In some cases, such as those where the original payment method cannot be refunded, we may provide the refund in the form of Battle.net Balance.
If the automated service doesn’t address your needs, our support team is available to help.
Refund Guidelines
Games and Expansions
We refund paid games or expansions within 14 days of purchase, as long as you haven’t played for more than two hours.
I suspect this is what the issue is. The OP can certainly try getting it refunded to Battlenet Balance instead, if they have not tried that yet. What they won’t get with that payment method is a refund to the gift card.
That is what I am finding as well. There are good reasons merchants don’t refund to it.
I am all for consumers getting their money back - but sometimes the consumer needs to take a bit of responsibility for their own decisions like payment methods.
Hey guys,
Small update. So initially after a while they contacted me saying , that they are fine doing refund to my bank account as long as I provide them with my banking data showing:
-my name
-my IBAN
-my BIC/SWIFT
So I’ve been providing them with proofs and documents, that I indeed bought the game from my bank account through paysafecard. It’s been going for 2 weeks now. Now I get an answer that sorry but sadly it’s not possible. I mean, they’re just playing on time… And I was really starting to believe they actually care. I guess I’m not getting my money back, or after half year of providing them with proofs. Every time also talking with different person.
(btw, your still free to roast me for using paysafecard instead of bank account)
Depending on the country or state you live in by law they have to give you a refund and you might be entitled to sue. I know Nintendo had a few class action lawsuits they had to settle with in a few countries. At the very least you could contact the better business bureau and report them. You can contact your bank and ask for a charge back but you’ll probably lose your account.
Who the hell carea how you paid. In the EU they are legally bound to refund within 14 days without use.
Yea, go use a gift card and try to get a refund to it… let’s see how well that works for you.
Doesnt matter, even those stores need to refund u.
Why don’t you just play it then? Is it a matter or can’t or do the whiners on the forums make you think it’s not worth it? Because it’s a fine game for $70, you’ll get enjoyment out of the game and the story. It just doesn’t offer infinite replayability out the gate and they can’t remember or refuse to admit that neither did D2 or D3.
D3 was a hot mess at launch and everything everyone likes about D2 came in LoD which was released a year later.
I’m unable to play the game because my windows cannot be updated to the required version -_-
and at this point I don’t care about their game anymore. I just want my rightfull refund.
Lol, if you ran a company it wouldn’t last long.
^ This. I was going to say I would think they would at least refund it to your blizzard account but I don’t know all the rules on something like the card you used though.

There is such a thing as buyers remorse which gives consumers a grace period usually 2 weeks to 30 days for a refund on products. Try to seek out whom ever is responsible for consumer protection in your region to find out how to proceed.
Companies should be held accountable for an unsatisfactory product and shouldn’t be given total autonomy.
I mean they gave Whoopi Goldberg her money back when she couldn’t play the game on her Mac (LOL)…why is she given special treatment just cuz she’s “famous” that’s bs everyone customer should be treated equally.
That is not special treatment. ANYONE who bought the game can refund it within 2 weeks of purchase if they have not played more than 2 hours. I am sure a Mac user fell into that category - they can’t play the game. That refund policy is valid for Whoopi, and every other person in that circumstance.
The OP has an issue because they used an anonymous gift card with no link to bank or real name. Refunding to that is far more problematic. The paysafe site does warn about that I think.
i have been trying to get a refund for a long time and i cant do it. it just wont let me and trying to find a spot to talk to a dev is impossible its like the option is not there!
just found my messages that i got back from a dev (auto report from robot)
his is an automated message from Diablo IV Forums to let you know that your forum account has been temporarily silenced due to a violation of our Code of Conduct.
It’s important for us to provide a civil and friendly environment on the forums, where all players can feel comfortable sharing their thoughts with each other. Additional policy violations may result in penalties of increasing severity up to and including a permanent ban from the forums.
An email has been sent to the address registered to this Blizzard account with more details.
and i was just explaining my problem and why i wanted a refund. lol WTF!
You think Bobby wants to give anything back? Their goal is to make sh*t games that play on your nostalgia.
Devs have nothing to do with Billing, refund processing, or forum account suspensions.
The automated part of a forum action is that it turns your post grey and sends you a message when you are reported by about 5 players.
Any action on your account was done by a human on the Forum Moderation team. That was not a bot, although they do use templates that have been approved by mgt and legal.
The forums are not a place to get a refund. If you scroll up the thread you can find the refund policy and info. The request must be made within 14 days of purchase and with less than 2 hours play time in game. I think Steam has the same policy.
If you feel you are within that policy and the easy automated refund tool did not let you have the refund, you would re-open that ticket to have a human GM review the refund request.
