I didn’t care for them in Diablo 2 but Blizzard is obsessed with companions in this game for some reason.
Sry but I have to disagree with pretty much every point except 7, wouldn’t be surprised if they were planning adding stupid skins for mercs which are not obtainable through gameplay.
that babbling sorc merc in D3 is fun; i can’t wait to buy more skimpy dress for my merc in D4, if available.
My takeaway from all this? “Mercenarys” is incorrectly spelled. It is mercenaries

game is wayyyy to easy as is… i consider myself a d4 noob and i dont bother with guides or looking online to learn the inner workings of the game and i still blast through content its just far to easy a merc will make it AFK Journey Diablo edition

First off, you DO NOT speak for the rest of the Diablo community.
OG players, like myself, will most likely welcome Mercenaries (this is the correct spelling, btw). Not only are they fun to tinker with and add more variety to your builds, they are a nostalgia trip for a lot of us. I still remember being excited to upgrade my merc. in both D2 and D3. Also, IIRC, the D3 season that brought us a fully equippable mercenary was heralded as one of the better seasons in D3’s long run.
So…maybe you should just state YOUR opinions and stop making it sound like everyone is going to hate mercenaries, because you are very wrong.

TBH i don’t like to play with Mercs, but i do know they have been part of Diablo since D2, so it was kind of unavoidable. I stil wish there could be anoption to not have mercs, but more power/skills to the main char

I am not reading all the crap disagreements but just wanted to add, I agree that mercs are unnecessary. They were unnecessary in D2 and just something to offload some strong gear onto which basically everyone used the exact same setup. (stabby act2 merc with a godly runeword spear). Mercs/followers are a huge reason I skipped construct season 3. I hope they give you an option to forgo a merc and get a buff instead. (and actually have the buff decent). Merc-meta will absolutely suck.
edit: And I completely forgot about the D3 mercs because it’s just not a fun mechanic at all. Like, cool, I slapped a “splits damage” ring on my merc and completely forgot about them the rest of the time I played the game.
I second his response whole heartedly. You might not like companions but i had a couple of builds that revolved entirely around them in D3, and i loved gearing out my amazon in D2. You don’t speak for the whole fanbase. Youre free to your personal opinion, its fine if you dont like companions. Personally i love companions and I hope they make a cool system that will really let us customize them and use them to make tons of unique builds. And btw, having and utilizing my companions never made me feel less like the main character or hero of the story. Thats just nonsense. Who tf gets jealous over an NPC lol

Spoiler alert, you only speak for yourself. Period. If you dislike a system that has been a staple since D2, that’s fine. You’re free to dislike mercenaries. What you are not free to do is to presume that other players share your same viewpoint. You are one among hundreds of thousands, and in no universe does you and the very vocal minority of players who think like you constitute as “the vast majority of players”. That’s all I really had to say. It really grinds my gears when folks are all like, “the vast majority of players” when they have absolutely zero data to back up their claims.

The Merc…not mercenary, was literally part of your build. A specific aura, specific gear and leveling it. No. Kindly sit this one out. You do not speak for the OG’s

i’m sorry to see you see it as crap, but as i mentioned in a post earlier, everyone is free to have opinions and free to express them. Also, free to make assumptions which actually are based on reality. I accepted the fact that we will have mercs, but it doesn’t mean i entertain the idea. I never liked them back in D2, low chances i will like them in D4, especially when this game needs so much more work on essential stuff like class balance, skill bugs, aspects balance.
So yeah, back to what i said. I wish we could have a poll as part of the forum’s tools.

You know this is about the store right?? Buying cosmetics and other gear for your merc. I would also be surprised if there arent a slew of pets and pet items in the store too.
But yes this game is stupidly easy, no need for mercs imho
