The season capstone to defeat Torment IX Mephisto (or X. I can’t recall right now) really demotivated me and got me playing other games. The insane jump in difficulty doesn’t seem like the linear challenge that I expected. I have dog walked the entire season until that. I’m hitting in the billions and his HP bar isn’t even moving in phase 1. Obviously there are going to be top .1% people who live on the forums to tell me I suck or w/e, so I’m fine just ignoring those people. Anyone else feeling similar?
to tackle mephisto on torment 10, you need to be extremely comfortable in t12.
i dont fully disagree, i also wish that things would be a little more linear. Recently someone suggested that the earlier tormets should be more challenging, while the high end stuff is toned down a little, and i think i agree.
either way, if you need help, let me know.
that could be me ![]()
i just finished the fight (on T10) and i never want to do it again TBH…
like you’ve said, if you can melt T12 you can melt mephisto and not have to bother much with all the bullcrap (for me, the camera movement was the worst part and then unskippable cutscene i just had to sit through once xD → died because i got sick from the camera haha)
said this WAY back when they put lillith as a seasonal journey brick wall, to NEVER do that again… (and they didn’t) guess they forgot how much most people hated it.
you can use endurant faith to negate some of the 1shots (but even that will only get you so far) so best to build towards as much damage you can and watch a few videos to know what to look out for (some things are easy to dodge but as the fight drags on you’ll get careless)
Git gud.
No seriously, ignore the git gud stuff, but there is a huge difference in DPS and damage reduction needed to clear your usual T10 bosses and T10 Mephisto. It’s a bit akin to how it was with Lilith back then : It’s the “pinnacle” content, and these bosses are usually much more formidable opponents than your usual bosses.
Basically, as Nyurei said, to “roll” over T10 Mephisto (or at least be able to kill him fast enough to mostly mitigate the risk of dying), you must be able to completely obliterate T12 Greater Lair bosses and survive most of their attacks. If you can’t facetank at least one or two “big” attacks from them (except the Duriel’s swallow, which pretty much insta-kill), then you won’t survive T10 Mephisto’s attacks.
At this point, you pretty much have two choices :
- Keep on farming, ignore Mephisto for now, and once you’re comfortably farming T12 (or achieve Pit 110-115, roughly), try him again. This is what I did. Once I was able to farm him easily in T10, I took the time to learn the fight and managed T12 Mephisto.
- Ask for a carry to complete the seasonal journey, be done with it and hope they never lock a major seasonal objective behind him again.
I’ll carry you if you’d like.
Or call me, i free carry 1shot T12 grandpa
Unfortunately, to kill him quickly you have to be hitting him for trillions. I’m so glad Evade Counterswarm melts him, or I’d probably just ignore him myself.
I had basicly oposite problem.i couldn’t beat him .So i Said ok need better gear .then i came again And again nope . So i was focused think about my build And Did special upgrades what i need for this fight . This fight motivationed me to play longer And beat him . Even when Now for my gear he Is very easy ,IT was good to Have something for you need improvements.it Is just part of progress
I’m stuck on the skovos helltides one, hate timed events. I haven’t even tried mephisto yet, looks like I have a while to go. T10 feels easy but t12 I get wrecked
sadly not too many people here seem it like that. If one cant beat something, its clearly a game design issue.
there are surely complaints that i consider to have reasoning, like, putting pinnacle bosses in the season journey, but yea, i agree with your sentiment.
my first character, my summoner necro struggled hard early in the season against him. It felt good to have overcome it and beat him on that character.
Lol, git gud noob. 20
Yea saw many Times . If blizz Will Nerf difficulty becouse Somebody found 1GA Mace And still cannot beat the hardest content ,then why would we farm better gear then . I never understand players WHO doesn’t like Motivation to play .even in Journey .season Journey going rank to rank from T1,then T4,T6,8 So you can Slowly prepare your gear And mephisto As last Challenge to Finish Journey .i dont saying that Is easy but still better then Finish Journey in one week
it is absolutely okay to not do it.
i think i got 70% of the seasonal tasks not completed and fought each lair boss less than 20 times.
the game is just not interesting and it is definitely okay to skip it.

Unfortunately exactly what individuals find motivating is as varied as individuals themselves, as different things motivate different players.
I am certainly not against Mephisto existing as a some what difficult fight that might provide challenge to some in a game that has never actually designed challenging content to any real degree.
Some people enjoy the fight and that is enough for me to agree that it should continue to exist.
Just because I may not find enjoyment in something doesn’t mean someone else won’t; plus options are good!
What I am not particularly fond of is when such fights are used in a manner that can essentially lock players out of completing the season.
Make it an additional challenge? Sure most certainly!
Make it a gatekeeper to the next section of the board? That is what I believe the general complaints are about. (Across the forums not this one in particular)
do you often play games you dont consider interesting :o?
I play in hardcore mode.
I’m not even trying Lilith on T8 to move onto the next chapter. Pure suicide. And Mephisto sounds even more fun…
I find this really lame that so many easier seasonal challenges in the later chapters are locked behind these two walls. Both of them should have been some of the optional challenges in the final chapter. Or the progression should be based on Pit/Tower level or something.
Or the way it was before and you need to complete X/Y challenges to advance.
Hopefully next season is better organized.
With my half-assed play style I managed to clear pit 105 using my “loosely based on a meta” zeal paladin. I can’t get past the first wave of TX Mephisto. Most recently I got him to about 5% life and got squished. It’s frustrating, but I figure I need to somehow improve my gear. So, I am working on gems and trying to build a better Red Sermon when I can get the base swords.
I figure I’ll hold out till the very end of the season before I look around for a carry, if still needed, just so I can get the rewards from the last season rank. I’ll scare my family now and then when I yell “What the F?!” with my every now and then attempts. ![]()
So, I killed his first phase. Phase 2 starts and I am looking at the screen, thinking “Ok, what do I need to do here oh I’m dead.”
Repair, zone in to try again. First phase again so I run in and need to get behind oh I’m dead. I forgot my resolve stacks this time.
This appears to have a long and frustrating learning curve.
Two keys to defeating Mephisto:
- Over Level - Don’t try to take him on in t10 while you are still playing t10
- Pay attention to the mechanics. He is not that hard once you know what you have to watch out for and when to attack
It is for sure an encounter that you likely have to make several attempts to learn all of the mechanics and overcome them. It would be great if the cutscenes were skippable after the first time, so that it would be less time consuming to go again and again to learn them.
BEFRIEND A BARBARIAN.
And problem solved
