Memory Leak is still bad after the latest Hotfix

Last night’s hotfix for mats and stability still didn’t resolve the crashing issue. All your balance and bug fixes wont matter much if the game is not stable!

Yup. Prior to the expansion things were fine, I’ve got two PCs (5800X3D 3090 / 5800X 3060) next to one another having the memory leak error … over … and over … and over … my 3090 doesn’t even hit 70C. The game is unstable and a complete pile of crap. Weeks of this – when is Blizzard going to propose refunds?

In before some genius with over 5k posts tries to tell you that somehow this is your fault and not Blizzards.

I used to get memory leak crash in closed beta all the time until i adjusted virtual memory to be higher. Have you tried that?

  1. Go to Start > Run and type sysdm.cpl
  2. Click the Advanced tab in the System Properties dialog box
  3. Click Settings under Performance
  4. Click the Advanced tab in the Performance Options dialog box
  5. Click Change in the Virtual Memory section
  6. Select the Custom size option
  7. Set the Initial size (MB) and Maximum size (MB)
(I have min 24000 MB and Max 48000 MB, not sure if optimal but it works)
  8. Click Set, then OK

Hope this is it and works for you.

Thanks for the detailed steps and suggestion, hopefully this helps someone else. As for me I have done so about 4 or 5 days ago, however, it didn’t help at all. What’s more ridiculous is my RAM is 64GB which is not enough for Diablo, my virtual memory is set to above 100GB which is absurd to have for a single game, and still crashes!

Could the Vessel of Hatred be our PCs all along? It really hates this game so much it can’t keep it running steadily!

Try turning off RTX (20)

It helps if you uninstall tbh.

I don’t even know what this means! is it a setting ingame?

For Nvidia gpus…
Myself the last 5 seasons i only had a crash happen once in a while.

For season 6 I updated my gpu driver to latest before i played S6.

My game has been crashing multiple times a day. As suggested somewhere else, i downgraded to the previous Nvidia drivers and I have not crashed once since then. only been two days. but still 2 days without crashes.

Give that a try, see if it helps you…

Raytracing options (20)

I can’t even TP without crashing 1 out of 3 TP’s. That’s not even mentioning the insane lag that hits me in town when I’m just standing there sometimes. Lag so bad, I can barely move an item from inventory to stash.

I was having a ton of crashing myself and several people suggested that I revert my nvidia driver to 561.09 which I did last night.
I have had no more issues. I don’t know if this could help but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Good luck.

My 3090ti gets to about 56C max (watercooled) with everything on full load, I have had the Fenris error when my card was at a 30C, it is not a heating issue, it is their code.

Do not attempt this fix this patch. I had my virtual memory set too high and it made the crashes worse.

Cap it at your ram size is what I did and it stabilised.

Did you try the driver revert or did you not ever update it?

It ended up helping me. Have not crashed once since yesterday.

See if it lasts, I have seen people posting about crashing after rolling back the driver also.

Hell even my crashes disappeared that first weekend. Then more patches.

I am not going to do this yet as everything else runs fine on this driver.
Like I said let me know if the stability lasts for you, if it does I may consider it…but I may as likely stop playing this for now. I stopped for a few days, when it rebooted my system a 2nd time.

Also someone else mentioned this with the last nVidia Driver. It reset some default values for power management. So check if yours are set to max performance.
Personally this only affects people who use the global settings for everything.
I have Diablo specific setting that was not touched.
So for me there is no reason to suspect the driver yet.
If your stability lasts…then maybe.

Well, it’s lasted over 12 hours but we’ll see.

Honestly, I updated to the current driver right b4 launching the xpac. Previously I had no such issues.

I’ll definitely update my posts if I start to crash again.

I considered this scenario as well, and have set mine to windows managed for the time being, with no static size (I had it set bigger for StarCitizen where it worked well). I run on 32GB of DDR6600 anyway so the default should be enough. Will up it in increments of 4GB if it struggles at this setting.

Every one of my posts is an update to if I am crashing again…Currently I am not. But I make little changes that could help inbetween.

oh I see, never had those on anyway, they are so bad even under stable conditions
