There is absolutely no way an average player can sustain the amount of materials or the gold needed to properly masterwork(double or triple hit) an item. Unless a player is selling items or legendary runes(good luck finding them) on the market and making billions, there is absolutely no way they can rerolll masterwork over an over again.
So far I spent around 600 million and 15-20k obducite to 2x Max life on a Doombringer and I still couldn’t get it. I’m not sure what the statistics are, but I have resetted it around 50-100 times in total(most of the resets are 1x).
And I realized I was going to run out of money, so I sold a few items and got to 4.3 bil. I thought, well now at least Ican safely re-roll right.
Wrong. I just ran out of veiled crystals and I had thousands of those. Now I have to go back to helltide and farm for days so I can go back to rolling my items.
You may call me unlucky, but I’ll go ahead and get a bit conspiratorial and say that the system is rigged. I think undesired affixes are weighted and I think there is an aritifical diminshing return mechanic to prevent you from 2x or 3x’ing certain affixes.
Also as a side note, I haven’t triple hit a signle item this season. That is pretty insane. Because statistically speaking, I should at least hit one or two through sheer luck.
Its still the season beginning tho. The people that play a lot have been geared out in a week. 2 months (or 3 in normal cases) should be more than enough time for even the most casual of casuals.
Good thing though that neither are required to finish all the content in the game. The average player is not missing out here. What you are describing is a non issue.
Even the average player will want to dip their toes into the end game at some point. It is impossble without gearing out and switching to a semi meta build.
How do you define endgame? To me it starts at pit 60, and you can certainly do pit 60 with pretty much any build without critting your masterworks. In fact 4/12 is more than enough for pit 60.
Seriously, s8 is a season where i absolutely avoid build guides and stuff and just do my thing on my necro. I actually forgot how much better it feels.
You may be right about it - 2-3 months may be enough time but I don’t believe most casuals can wait that long and keep the motivation to keep grinding.
Casuals probably play only 1-2 hours a day, if that and even when they are ‘playing’, I doubt they are utilizing all of their time for efficient farming. They are probably idling in town chatting or looking at their character outfit and their actual grinding is probably 50% - 75% of their already short playtime. It’s not nearly enough to make a meaningful progress in such a short span of time and they won’t feel like they are rewarded. Sure, in several months, they will still achieve their goal but it’s too long and most likely, they will lose the motivation to play long before they are rewarded. I’m not judging them. They can play the game however they want, but it will be difficult to see the reward and the perception of the lack of reward will most likely discourage any further playing.
I personally grind hard, literally treating the town as lava and I play at least 5 hours a day and much more on weekends. Despite starting the season several days late, I’m already decked out in all uniques and mystics my build needs and have Pit Lv 90 on speedfarm and currently just grinding out paragon levels. But I know that i don’t represent the normal playerbase of D4. It’s the casual players that are driving this game. The moment Blizzard run afoul of them, it will be bad for their business. Despite how you feel, Blizzard has the incentive to somehow satisfy these players.
I mean in the end, we wont be able to tell. If gearing becomes any more easier, blizzard also runs afoul of players. Its the same old discussion that plagues d4 since its release. You cant satisfy everyone. At one point you have to stick with something.
If d4 becomes even easier, it sure as hell is fine by me - it just wont be the game of my choice then.
Yes, they will run afoul of some players for sure if they make gearing too easy but they already ran afoul of the more hardcore players and D4 already established itself as a haven for casuals.
Charged bolt Sorc, Stormclaw Druid, Heartseeker Rogue… The list is endless based on your minimal qualifications to complete pit level 60… Remember just about any build not exploiting a bug, snapshotting, or full on meta. (oh wait full on meta does just that)
I only pay attention on the first jackpot (+4) to a specific affix I need, +8 and +12 are just pure luck. I skip any builds that requires 3 jackpots at the same affix coz it’s too difficult.
I consider myself an average player, as in, I complete the season journey and I am done.
I think I tried resetting my masterwork twice since they introduced the system. I did not get lucky on those few times, and did not feel like grinding obducite for what I consider an unnecessary upgrade. Just like I never maxed any glyph ever.
I was able to do any content I wanted without any issue.
And I was able to dip my toes into the endgame. Luckily there is nothing in the endgame beyond what you do all the way through the season journey.
No effin casual will play a season for 3 months. Even die hard diablo players(streamers also) check out before the end if the season isn’t good. “Season is 3 months long, just progress gradually” is the biggest delusion and cope I’ve heard from someone.
End game is probably T70+
Being able to delete Uber bosses within seconds and having them on the farm rotation is the beginning of the end game.
End game is having decked out gear with 12/12 perfect masterworks.
If you are a guy with non GA uniques and no ubers and you are doing T60, you are as far as you can be from the end game.
If i find a support group, you want an invite? Crystals have been my limiting factor on MW rerolls by a huge margin over all other mats required, including gold. It feels like huge increase in rate of use, and huge reduction in availability compared to s4-6, but someone else can probably point out where im wrong.
This. No freaking way do I have the patience to masterwork 3 of the same stat.
I have to google the odds of this happening. You essentially need the same outcome three times in a row in a list of 5 choices. I mean come on, what do you think this is, tempering?
I have been extremely lucky this season. I have gotten three triple hits so far. Shako, Doombring, Ring of Starless Skies. The rest of my gear has double hits. Pure luck.
Last season, I spent 140K Obducite trying to get a triple hit on one item and never got it. All three of my triples this season happened in less than ten resets. I’ve run out of Veiled Crystals on several occasions. I’ve had to resort to opening the equipment chest in Infernal Hordes just to scrap that equipment.
