I wanted to share some thoughts on the Masterworking system, especially the reset mechanism for affixes. Right now, the way it works is pretty frustrating and could really turn players off. Here’s what’s going on:
1. The Full Affix Reset Problem:
When we’re upgrading items with Masterworking, we’re often targeting specific affixes like critical damage. But since the upgrades are random, it can take a lot of tries to get the ones we want. If I manage to boost my critical damage twice but then hit something useless on the third try, I have to reset everything and start over. This is a huge pain because:
-
High Reset Costs: Resetting costs 5 million gold and a bunch of materials. That’s really steep and makes it tough for casual players.
-
Time and Resource Sink: Farming for the gold and materials takes a lot of time. For those of us who can only play a few hours a day, this makes it almost impossible to get the gear we want without getting really frustrated.
2. How This Affects Us:
This reset system is killing the fun. Here are some examples from other games that had similar issues:
- Path of Exile: Their crafting system is also super random and resource-heavy, which has turned off a lot of players.
- World of Warcraft: The Titanforging system had a lot of backlash because it was so hard to get the perfect gear without a ton of grinding and luck.
3. A Better Way: Partial Affix Reset:
Here’s an idea to make things better: give us the option to reset just the last upgrade level instead of wiping out all our progress. For example:
-
Selective Reset Option: Let us choose to reset only the last affix upgrade we did. This way, we don’t lose all the good rolls we already have.
-
Adjusted Costs: To keep it balanced, you could make this partial reset more expensive, like 15 million gold. This would let us decide if we want to take a hit on the last upgrade or start over completely at a lower cost.
I’m sure other players suggested a similar idea, proposing that resets should only remove the last four ranks at a time. This shows there’s a shared frustration in the community and a desire for a more forgiving reset system. Implementing this change would allow us to grind out the masterworks we want without feeling like we’re banging our heads against a wall every time we get a bad roll.
Cheers!
