I think you hit the nail on the head with this one. For me personally it’s not an issue but I can definitely see how it can lead to false player expectations. And, evidently, it does! Such a simple fix, honestly. Just remove the option to reroll MW and you’re done.
Man, base loot is just pathetic in this game. Mobile game tier at best.
I have a vague memory of it, but wasn’t the first version they showed for masterworking just having the +5% boost for all affixes with no crits at 4/8/12?
Yeah, it has been this way since they introduced it. It’s quite horrible. And there are no plans to change it. I honestly am baffled at how D4 stays in business. I haven’t spent more than $5 for the past several seasons.
No. That’s just what every developers decides to do with regards to crafting. There is always RNG in ARPGs, but that doesn’t mean a game must “revolve around RNG”. That’s just trash logic.
I do not know 1 arpg where loot doesnt revolve around rng and that also extends to crafting. Why play a genra you know revolves arounds rng if you have negative feelings towards it.
Mind you D4 has a ton of pitty systems and its quite streamlined to where a check list is involved. Sadly the endgame loop is mw. I never said the d4 systems were good.
i dont like the RNG. Diablo originally wasnt about “the loot grind” or gambling. Thats what you people who are addicts try to say, claim we’re all addicts when many of us play for different reasons.
Be thankful we don’t have PoE2 ‘‘crafting’’ that right there is a massive scam.
People who invest hundreds of Divines a day get something in return , people who don’t have that much currency or newbies can kiss their gameplay goodbye.
D4 is at least newbie friendly and you are not required to have degree in engineering in order to enjoy.
Yes, D2 had some deterministic craftic with cube for items no one crafted because they were weak. The actual crafting people did with the cube was 100% full on RNG. Did you never craft ammies?
"You seem to have no idea what that word means."I know all to well, and ALL the aspects of it.
“Again, not how a game works. The game designer applies the rules. Not the player.”
The way you talk you seem to take the role of a designer, not the player.
I would really like to see a more in depth, selection based and grinding for masterworking. Where you have to spend more, but give you more control over what you are upgrading.
Something more interesting where you can better customize and upgrade the further you go. Almost like a skill tree but for your equipment.
I actually find the system reasonable, compared to most ARPGs. If it is too accessible, which some people are asking for, the end game gearing has no progression. Alternatively, we would have no blacksmith rolling and we will be completely at the mercy of RNG drops, like mythic uniques, which absolutely sucks.
Sure, getting the legendary 3 rolls on the stat you want, is nice, but unless you a mega grinder, it is unlikely to happen. 2 rolls is 4%. Totally doable for an active player putting a few hours per week.
The only issue I have is bricking. I get why they dont want us to roll items indefinitely. But even with the item that allows rerolling once again, it still possible to brick a good item. A possible solution is every greater stats allows as to reset the rolls once more. I think that would be a middle ground for not bricking 2-3 greater stat item.
I laugh every time someone describes Tempering & Masterworking as “crafting” systems.
They are not. They are “item finishing” systems, meant to mitigate the otherwise mediocre itemization. A “crafting” system means you gather materials from which you then create an item, not simply modify one you looted elsewhere.
The main issues with both tempering and mastering can be dissected because there are a few. But i do think the main pain point for most players is that like with most things in this game, enchanting, tempering, and MW are all terribly balanced.
The amount of materials needed to achieve high end master working versus the insane weighted RNG makes it just an unpleasant experience more often than not. Let me run a scenario by the players and ill venture that many of you experienced this:
You’ve been running a rotation for 3 hours of boss runs to gather crystals, hordes for odbucite . and legions for other mats. Then you head over to the crafter to MW that one last piece of gear and you burn through 3 hours of farming in 30 seconds. It just feels bad. Either tone down the RNG or reduce the cost so we can spam the heck out of it , and for gods sake make the temper scroll usable more times.
Its feels more punishing than rewarding. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
