Nice idea, almost perfect, except for the cost in materials and gold. It could be fine tuned, but the gist of it is pretty nice. We can spend useless hours rerolling tempering and masterworking, it’s not gaming, that’s just plain suffering.
Yeah, not sure what is the perfect cost and would have to be iterated upon.
This needs to be bumped every single day. Costs can be adjusted but a checkpoint system would do wonders for this game. Gatekept power under a flawed gameplay cycle isn’t what we need.
It’s especially worse if you even think about playing an alt. No one wants to go farm all masterworking materials for hours on end then waste it all in 10 minutes with 0 triple MW proc.
All “endgame” content should also have a chance to give all materials used in masterworking. Season 8 is a cycle of infernal/undercity/NMD for obucites, Belial spams (if you have the husks) for Forgotten Souls and Veiled Crystals from unique salvage and rep caches from ash scrolls; yes i’m aware that you can also get these from other content but look at the amount that you get vs the effort/time it takes from other sources.
great, we need this.
Bump.
Checkpoints at 4 and 8 need to happen.
Sitting in front of a blacksmith and rerolling on average 64 times on a unique, and 125 times on a non-unique is awful, to get the triple crit you want.
It’s basically torture.
Ya, you don’t HAVE to do it… but we all want to make our gear as good as possible for our build.
Even in the PTR I don’t wanna do it with unlimited materials and gold.
Live server is just pain.
It’s not a hard fix to implement, it would take one game designer a few minutes, have someone else change the UI.
Like, it’s not difficult.
Every player would like this change.
25 mill to save at checkpoint 4.
125 mill to save at checkpoint 8.
20 and 80 for uniques.
Or, you could still gamble and hope it doesn’t take you the “average” amount of tries.
Masterworking was cool in season 4… but the 6th season into this now, I don’t wanna sit in front of the blacksmith rerolling for 10, 30, 60 minutes to get the right crits… I’d rather be out in helltides or pits, or dungeons.
Agreed, hope they consider this feature!
Hard agree OP! Masterworking my gear is such an annoyance. Even just going for double crits I must have hit the stupid button 1000+ times. It’s such a boring/mind numbing process and needs to be changed ASAP.
The second problem we have at the moment is that we cannot even find upgrades because 2-GA items and better do not drop. Most of the 2- and 3-GA items we find have he wrong affixes on it, so we end up with mostly 1-GA items and maybe one or two 2-GA items.
I can forsee another issue here being that there would probably need to be some visible indication on the item showing what the order was.
We are mostly imagining this as something you do in one session. But let’s say you MW some items to 12/12 as an initial attempt, then don’t play for a few days or a week. Are you going to remember what order all the crits applied in? If not, you’d be taking a risk spending a huge amount of resources to only reset back to 4 or 8.
So ideally they would need to not only store the data on the item but also display it to the player. On an already cluttered Item Stats UI that might prove challenging. Though not unsolvable by any means.
I would like to see tempering and masterwork a true upgrade system and not a gamble like obols vendor.
What about a small MW tooltip at the bottom that shows you what your crits applied to in successive order of 4,8,12 with this change?
I’m not necessarily a fan of the current system, but it’s one of the few mechanics that actually requires putting time into to progress.
This suggestion trivialises it so much that I don’t see any benefits over just removing it.
Let’s say the only change is that instead of masterworking your legendary item 125 times (124 resets) and your unique item 64 times (63 resets) you now have to masterwork your legendary item 15 times (12 resets) and your unique item 12 times (9 resets) and the overall costs could be the same.
(All numbers are average attempts needed and could vary immensely.)
So the invested mats are the same, but the amount of frustration while doing masterworking is far lower.
If the gold and Obducite costs are the same then I would say it’s the same mechanic with less clicks. That wouldn’t bother me in the slightest.
I only go for double-crits so have never had the issue of the mechanical clicking being that annoying. Makes sense.
The game has many problems, but if they did this it would allow you to play other builds or all classes more comfortably. Back on S5 I min-maxed 5 toons. I like to play all classes (except barb, sorry) lol. I played so many infernal hordes to get almost perfect crits in all my characters, that the next season I felt so mentally drained and triggered I only played a 100hrs, most of them bossing or AFK trading because it is the only way to get enough gold. I’ve just couldn’t do this again. As a result I only levelled 1 toon and quit the season without min-maxing. It felt like going to a job you hate. I promised to myself I would never put myself through this misery just because of FOMO or OCD completionist issues, which many of us in the ARPG community have. And you know what was the worst part? The minute I’ve got my perfect tempers and masterworks, I’ve stopped playing because I realised there was nothing for me to do with my perfect gear and everyone I enjoyed playing with was done with the season anyways. It just doesn’t feel like a game mode, it is literally psychological torture. This solution has been brought up by many, casuals, blasters and streamers alike. I don’t know exactly how they are going to address this issue but they’ve got to do something about it. It is just not fun nor creative, it is purely a mind-numbing casino clicking nonsense that has to go. It has been 4 season’s in, and I am confident that 90% of the player base absolutely hates it.
Edit: plus in S6 there was basically 1 class on the game, and it was so broken there was no need to min-max anything or get anything perfect. Today the class is trash and they say in S9 will be better but I find thorn builds so boring I won’t even touch it.
Exactly. Same total investment in MW, with only a fraction of the frustration. Sounds like a win-win change in my book.
