Not going to say D4 is now perfect, but Diablo IV Lord of Hatred is far and away the single best diablo experience i have had since Diablo II Lord of Destruction.
i think a lot of the systems could use some polish and growth, but for a release with so many completely new and reworked systems, this finally feels like a solid foundation to build an amazing game on.
i LOVE the new boss encounters. The skill tree for Sorc feels pretty good! The campaign story was masterful.
I love how elements of previous iterations of diablo and even other games have been woven in, yet the game still manages to feel like the there is some discernable form emerging out of the nebulous cloud of identity. Its like a patchwork tapestry, when you look close you can see the design on each section, but when you step back and look at the whole, there is a separate and distinct image presented.
I’ll likely do a formal review a bit later into the season when I’ve had the time to really dig in to all of the nooks and crannies, but at this moment, I can honestly say they absolutely surpassed all hope and expectations i had for the expansion.

Not gonna comment on the other stuff since i do not own LoH and i stopped playing my char on lv 13 which is not far into the game as we all know.
I can however say something about the skill tree rework. It is a complete joke to be honest. It looks visualy like it has improved a lot but actualy it is even less diverse then what we had before.
I dunno how you can think that the new skill tree is an improvment. It is beyound me.

Because they are speading power into other systems that layer to build your character. you don’t have to have a billion nodes on a planetarium looking skill tree to make it good.
Look at D2 small clean trees with a ton of flexibility. Here we have something similar, but we also have many other layers to character power.
If you want a game that is easy for new players and casual players to pick up and also deep and rich in its possibilities, then the approach of multiple simpler but overlapping systems that can be introduced in stages is superior to one giant constellation. Unless of course you are impressed by complex UIs.
I personally prefer complex systems with simple UIs. That is the hallmark of masterful system design

D2 does not have a ton of flexibility. What are you talking about. D2 is a fantastic game that is not complex and almost has zero flexibility in its tree. Actualy that was allways one of the major complains about D2.
Who was asking for a giant constelation. I was just saying that the D4 skilltwig is a joke.
You did not deny that. You said its okay cause there are other systems as well. I disagree. The tree is a joke and paragon board is a loated pointless stat bloat.
D4 is not complex with a simple Ui. It is simple with clusterfudge Uis.

Although I believe Diablo Immortal is still superior in several aspects, if we only talk about the numbered/main saga, then I agree.
I can definitely believe this.
Being the best Diablo release since LoD is not saying much at all.

spoken like someone who hasn’t played S13. i would have agreed with you a few months ago. the crafting and the talisman bring a lot of power into itemization that is deterministic. Some will look at that and say PFFT gear should be RNG, but to me its a way of moving some of the deterministic build elements from the skill tree to the gear. I like it. i think its smart. I think it makes the game better, and i think the skill tree is better without the passives.
Shh that was my diplomatic way of saying well done but its still not D2 + 2 generations of improvements
I don’t have a phone (that i play games on)

Soaking a twig in Ginger Ale is nice, but soaking a twig in Diablo Fanta is
Fanta stick.
ok I’ll leave,

The story was excellent, by far the best installment of the Diablo IV series. A huge improvement over VoH, which was fairly forgettable apart from the ending. The characters were actually well written, and made you care about them. The story had coherent themes. Good ones!
I just finished the campaign on an Eternal character, so I haven’t played with the end game systems too much yet, but it looks promising. It’s practically a whole new game, mostly in a good way.
They’ve cleared the board of basically every outstanding plot thread that I can think of, so whatever the next installment is, it’s going to be a fresh start, story-wise.

That is absolutly no what i am looking for in an Arpg looter.
It is true however. The last season i played a bit longer was season 7 i think. I skipped s3, s6 and everything after S7.
The game is just incredible boring.I am still interested in Diablo as a franchise and i will hang around in this forum and test from time to time the state of game. I will not buy the addons anymore though. Not until i start up the game and actualy feel some enjoyment. I will not hope that a addon can fix the core of the game.

Well with Mephisto banished and Diablo apparently “busy elsewhere” all paths lead to Destruction!
already bored so this is nothing like lod imo.
same grind and gameplay, all they did was take power out of skill trees and then shuffled them to large amounts of grindy rng based sub systems. so very, meh.
each their own i guess.

Saying this is the best since LOD is not a comparison of this to LOD. It is a comparison of this to everything that came after LOD and before this. That is kind of what since means. - ps nice ninja edit
Oh yes well i will give all due consideration to the opinion of someone who hasn’t played the current season or any of the 5-6 prior. You for sure have an experience based pov that i should take seriously.
agreed. There are still some issues really, but nothing that needs to be tackled instantly, because we know, blizzard tends to do panic kneejerk changes lol.
I like how you said that aspects of other diablo titles are woven in. didnt think of it before, but you are right.
Its been quite a while since i was this satisfied. Not gonna lie, they are opening my wallet. Im close to purchase a warlock skin D:

Undoes all improvements related to loot quality and quantity.
-
The new Skill Tree is just a version of D3, only putting 15 points in each skill. No passive skills to reduce cooldowns, damage, or increase attack or movement speed.
-
Warplans? More like, THE GAME DECIDES WHAT YOU’RE GOING TO DO.
-
Uber Mephisto is just Lilith on turbo. A horrible boss fight full of one-shots.
-
Cow Level is just an easter egg, and not something implemented in the endgame with a real function.
-
Nerfs after nerfs.
-
Tries to imitate PoE2 with crafting and warplans, and ends up being 10x worse.
And you call this “the best Diablo release”?
Please, it’s legitimately one of the worst.
