I like the horse, the clunky mechanics doesn’t happen often enough to bother me. The speed boost it offers and just fun factor of it more than makes up for any issues it may have. If it bothers you so much simply dont use it.
I 2nd this, it doesn’t even have to fly that high for my chonky druid, just enough to go from point A to point B without hitting anything and slowing me down.
Hell I’ll toss $30 bucks for that.
Mounts in online games are always just there as a vehicle for the cash shop. When they were introduced in MMOs (I think this was DAOC or EQ or something?) it was like the first time there was an in-game cash purchase and it was very controversial and people didn’t like it.
People like to throw the MMO term around here loosely, like “it’s built into d4 for immersion” or “oh yeah it’s a new thing in d4!” but oh it can’t be a P2W item… oh but this, or but that, it has to do this so it’s realistic with cooldowns and barriers…

The one thing I don’t necessarily like, which I didn’t know this until watching a video from Bellular Gaming, was that the speed of the horse depends on how far out your mouse is from the horse like it’s emulating an analog stick.
There’s no reason the game can’t have locked in max speed and a button you have to press to walk, PC/Console, this can be done. It’s just about whether Blizzard thinks it’s important enough and how much the ‘realism’ police cry about it.

You should try hold the click and steering with the mouse… My issue is how often you spur and nothing happens. Sometimes if you are stuck in a trot pace because of the set pieces or I dont even know why you spur and the speed doesnt change at all…
The sharp deceleration when sprint runs out feels bad. That’s the part I hate the most – gives me anxiety. I wish they just made it go faster overall and got rid of the sprint altogether.
Horse movement has some issue in PC where your mouse pointer is your accelerator. Moving left and right, horse runs fast the farther your mouse pointer from your horse, specially if you are using a wide screen monitor. But moving up or down, even if your mouse pointer is at the edge of top/bottom screen feels so slow.
Also, I wish horse can jump too.
You have to move your mouse further to the screen border, for the horse to run faster.

You guys are really exploring the map, or you just farm dungeons like robots? I assure you horses are really helpful when you have to move quickly in the map without fighting every monsters you meet. Removing horse seems a very bad idea.
You want to walk around this massive map? You delete that horse and blizzard might as well turn the servers off for good. I tried rerolling alt and I won’t do it I’m not walking around everywhere. Also It drives me insane that I can’t go faster on a horse in town.

Imagine having to walk from mystery chest in helltides back and forth it would be over before you could reach the second one lol.
