Legendary Codex is great. Why is Tempering an old solution?

The Legendary Codex is a trash system. A joke for an A-RPG.
Filling up bars of guaranteed item progression.

Well, considering many of the legendary aspects should have been in the skill tree instead, it isn’t all bad. Just half bad.

No thanks. Then you might as well take down the servers. There would be no A-RPG left.

I will agree that it was a bad idea to move Tempered affixes to an NPC vendor.
Move them back to when the item drops.

Seems like that would remove a bunch of the frustration that people are feeling.

It should come from both.
Nor are they entirely separate. Having to fight with the items you managed to get, rather than the items you wanted, is part of what can add skill to the combat.

But yeah, currently the combat is very lacking in the skill department.

Yes please.

Like i said Indian ,my season would be over at level 100. So thats a 4 day season. You need the grind or its just reskin D3(It is already, no turning back now).

Oh please no - if that were to happen, we’d be back to hoarding Legendary items in the stash…

It’s clearly not fun to block a 3 GA item. I think it’s fair for you to destroy x 3 GA items (Create material for this, unique ones should also provide important material, as they are unique) to unlock or increase the temper of an item. That would be fun and rewarding.

Some people like a little risk in their games, and they find it fun, I’m not one to judge, just passing along information is all. The idea that you can turn a 3 GA item into essentially trash is not fun for some, but for others they just see it as a gamble, that feels even better when the stars align and they get all of the affixes they want.

These games thrive off of gambles with RNG everywhere. This is essentially no different, it just has more limitations. I’m not saying it’s good or bad, that’s up to the player to decide, just telling it how it is.

I also like the risk, look at the enchantment for example, you can spend 10m gold and not get what you want or spend 150 on the third roll and get what you want. It’s tremendous happiness.

Now a completely perfect 3 GA item is a big thrill. That I may never find another one again. And losing it in tempering is bad. I think it’s fair to sacrifice 10 3 GA items and increase 1 temper durability. Or simpler, place all recipes with a maximum of 3 affixes.

This is fun. It’s reward x effort. Today it’s just luck x effort.Simple

Well you yourself said

strongly implying to that

  1. mindless grind is okay
  2. it is even okay if you do it for a whole week which you did.

And now you tell us that you are a dad too? And you grinded and rushed the game for 1 week, but trying to use the argument that the season lasts 3 month anyway?
Something is fishy in this statement.
With all due respect it is hard to believe. And if it is still the case, you need to spend more time with your family and less time with farming. But i don’t want to lecture anyone how to parent.

And you didn’t quiet got my point. The point is that Blizz quadrupuled the grind level with the tempering AND Masterworking system.
As i said, these 2 mechanics sounded very awesome at start. For me too.
But as soon I realized the downside of it, i wish they would never implemented it in this way they did.

And don’t come with D2 runewords grind. That was the crappyest part of D2 and the reason why i say that D2 has a much bigger nostalgia factor than it was actually justified.
It was never fun to run 600-1000 contess tower runs nor was ever fun to sit in trade lobbies for hours just to get to deal with a lot of scammers.
I don’t miss those times neither.

Well I might have it a bit easyer, as I’m devorced so I’m more of a weekend dad.

I brought that up as a deterrent example, as this gring is nothing compared to that one.

But I don’t feel that. Compared to what we had to do before and now, I realy don’t feel that is 4 times worse.

This what happened to me, got a BIS piece of gear, my tempering had only 3 choices, hard to miss isn’t ?
Well it did missed it 5 times and for 5 times I always got the same roll I didn’t need, I just quit and uninstall the game (been playing since day 1)
I just hate RNG in this type of situations.

Grinding is a fundamental aspect of ARPGs like Diablo 4 because it provides long-term goals and a sense of progression that keeps the game engaging. Without the grind, players would quickly achieve everything, and the game would lose its challenge and excitement. The rarity of perfect items ensures that there’s always something to strive for, which makes finding or crafting those items much more rewarding. This balance between effort and reward is what keeps players coming back, experimenting with different builds, and participating in the in-game economy. In essence, the grind is what transforms a good ARPG into a great one, offering endless replayability. That is why we need the grind. The difficulty in obtaining perfect items is what keeps the game alive and exciting for everyone.

Solutions to bricking:

  1. Be able to reset the tempering rolls with a resplendent spark.
  2. Add 5 more tempering rolls but the cost for each roll will be much higher than the previous roll.

it’s actually fun how D3 players call ARPG system “old solution”.

Not everything should be full yolo arcade and not everything should be pseudo-random, sometimes a real random is a way better.

I agree. The players who don’t realize what this mechanic really is (a drop), despite being told over and over since the PTR, is really annoying. The devs don’t help in this, selling this as a crafting mechanic when literally all tempering does is to fill in the final 2 affixes.

Complaining about tempering, in a game where almost every item drop you get is useless, is rather redundant.

a resplendent spark to reset the number of rolls i think is a good idea. allows those who are set on claiming that 3ga are so rare be able to reset the item. meanwhile the rest of us will just farm new ones because they drop often enough its no big deal.

Are you sure you don’t want Poison Creeper affixes even though you don’t have that skill selected? :hamster:

Don’t talk in my name …

No! I said it several times why this is a bad idea…

To improve…what? Is not like you can select an affix and then you have a chance for that affix to have. Do you even know how Tempering works?

Welcome to ARPGs. All of them have such …feature.

Oh, so now you want the BiS of them all with a press of a button? No!

You are free to do so. Tempering is not holding you down.

I will talk in your name.

Some people are so comfortable in the abuse they can’t see it for the hand slapping them in the face. You need an advocate that cares about you. Gambling mechanics are not necessary, we can have some grind, some RNG, and a good sense of progression without them.

Fighting to keep gambling mechanics is not in your best interest, or anyone else, but you’re too damaged by every other ARPG to understand, and that’s okay.

All you have to do is stay silent.

Tempering is already cost prohibitive so you won’t do it just for fun. There needs to be unlimited rolls just make them cost even more past a certain point. There’s all the difference in the world between cost prohibitive and literally nothing more can be done.

I mean if we want to talk about pathological gambling aversion my tendency just now is to not roll at all and take the power loss if it means I don’t have to risk ruining it with something just as bad as nothing.

I know it’s confirmation bias but I am starting to feel like there is some targeted weighting.

I have 2 druids → the Wind Shear gets gear/tempers for my Hurricane, and the Hurricane gets the gear/tempers for the Wind Shear.

No I was playing both pets except Poison Creeper, 5 in a row Poison Creeper nonsense.
So now I am playing Poison Creeper also. :stuck_out_tongue:

So from my understanding it seems like you want a game with the possiblities to min-max a char in a day? What’s the point in playing than. Don’t you want to grind and put in the hard work to get stronger and stronger?
It pretty much took me 3/4 days to get what i needed from tempering/enchanting and RNG is a normal thing in a game like this so i really trying to figure out kids like you cause i know it’s not gonna be removed for these type of reason…
if you don’t want to put some hard work into the build your trying to make than just quit and play something that’s easier for you.
