This is occurring to me as well. I never noticed during S5 and have only played the XPac post patch 2.0.3.

I have an update!!!

So my wife and I both play on D4 on Windows PC’s, she has a laptop, I have the desktop. Yesterday we both disabled crossplay options in the player select screen and we could no longer invite each other.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought disabling crossplay on PC meant you are only playing with PC players. Does this mean that bent servers are detecting my PC as a non-PC, and if so, could that be causing a problem that contributes to server-side delays?

Could you try disabling crossplay, and have a PC-payer-friend disable crossplay as well then see if you can invite them to your group, if not then perhaps your Windows copy of the game is being misdetected?

but did this fix the issue of disconnects?

Replying only to contribute with logs, I’m having this constantly almost a 50/50 - I didn’t have it or it was very rare before the expansion.

No, it does not fix the problem, nothing truly does, some things “appear” to help reduce the problem, while other things seem to increase the problem.

Warping to different zones when texture details are maxed, while in a group with someone on XBOX seems to give me 90% likelihood of a crash.

That being said, I have tested this time and time again and our Windows laptop cannot join a party with our Windows desktop (which has the warping problem) when crossplay is disabled.

Could be a coincidence but also could be related especially when you review my Fenris log shortly after a teleport crash:

“[Game.UI] GameAccountOnlineStatusChangeCallback: Not a global game account!

I am not sure what it means but it repeats the message 5 times and it has an exclamation point which tends to make me think this message is not typical, perhaps because the server keeps trying to check some aspect of my account and the check fails.

Everyone just keep posting your Fenris logs here until someone makes a connection.

As for the shop… actually, some aspects ARE bugged when this happens. When you get sent to the black screen, look at your seasons’s journey page and check out the battle pass purchase area and you will see what I mean.

I also experience sound distortion or popping sometimes.

It is entirely possible that #Teleport-to-Blackscreen happens by default for a variety of issues, and that the act of teleporting somewhere does a number of “checks” on our computers. This is strongly indicated by the “ClientReceiveHeartbeat” message in our Fenris logs. In my case, I have virtually eliminated all but server-side issues as a cause by changing out devices and such but on the off chance that something here will help one of you suffering through this, I will post this here. Try not to break your brains over it though because there might be nothing you can do except post your Fenris logs for now.

  • Network congestion or interruptions from other applications or devices on your network could result in the out-of-order delivery of packets. This might explain why the problem worsens during group play or when voice chat is active (both increase network traffic).
  • Solution: Close other bandwidth-heavy applications and prioritize game traffic using Quality of Service (QoS) settings on your router.

(I was short in my reply to avoid to lose focus of the thread, but @Reddogzz I MUST thank you for the exceptional help you are giving here - mainly the client-side + hardware tests, this is so precious to eliminate possibilities. Thank you very much, let’s hope Blizzard goes after this because it’s critical in my opinion. I’ll keep posting more logs in here as soon as it happens again, but ATM I’m now only avoiding either to play the game, or to play repeated same-place activities expecting to not to happen.)

Just back to post more logs.
What is interesting is that I am noticing it is trying to shove me into a party, even though I am not in a party with ANYONE and it was doing this without the mercenaries activated as well.

So I warp, it puts me into a party that I can’t see, flashes the “joined a voice chat channel for party” and then the screen goes black and hud stays on. I turned voice chat off and it is still trying to put me into a voice chat channel. Not sure what that is all about.

Hey @Reddogzz,

I´ve finally managed to log some more metrics with the LatencyMon app. I´ve started the monitoring and here are average latencies i´ve managed to record:

  • While idling at windows desktop, the latency is around 10-30 microsecs
  • While loading the game (from the time of clicking “PLAY”) it varies from 40-300 microsecs.
  • Regular gameplay in overworld (helltide, legion events etc) sits comfortably around 60-100 microsecs
  • Clearing a nightmare dungeon is less demanding i suppose, because the latency there sits around 50 microsecs, basically an idle latency.
  • When warping, the latency spikes to around 500 microsecs regularry, even if the game doesn´t crash. When i did manage to finally crash, there wasnt anything irregular concerning latency spikes. My maximum latency on the ssd was 641 microsecs.
  • On the other hand, i did have one irregularity and that is the dxgkrln.sys driver spike (which i suppose is related to GPU latency) which spiked to aroun 900 microsecs.

Maybe it would be wise, to account for some GPU related issue aswell? From what i´ve read so far though, it really seems to be a server related problem. The voicechat messages after the black screen and the fenris log clearly stating “Received out of order tick” really indicates to a potential packet loss issue regarding some anticheat mechanism?

Started happening to me recently (after 2.0.3?)
I teleport to town. Screen is black wit GUI overlay visible. Music and sound still playing. I press ESC to open game menu. Trying to “Leave game” only closes the menu. I can only close the game with “Exit game” then restart it.

Also, some tips on what I am doing to avoid it (until - hopefully - they fix it):

  • doing repeated same activities seems to minimize it, i.e.:
    • Pit Artificer one after another only warping to Cerrigar when done;
    • doing Nightmare Dungeons one after another, then warping only to EITHER that dungeon’s entrance OR ALWAYS to The Den (spoiler only if you are really early in the expansion);
    • (spoilers only if you are really early in the expansion) Undercity one after another then returning always to Bazaar city;

These are waht I’m doing lately to at least grind some without losing buffs AND not losing my mind tbh. Still crossing my fingers for a fix ASAP.

(EDIT: a note about the logs, some I needed to cut less than 10 lines before/after the sHandleDisconnect since it showed sensitive information.)

I myself seems to have lost the black screen somehow or atlest i had not had it anytime after 2.0.3 update. But who knows i did not have it often like twice a day before.

641 microsecs is not the end of the world, but it is also not great :-/
When you warp you suddenly have to load a ton of info into the pipeline to be temp loaded on your drive, for example, did you know that when you warp into a town, D4 suddenly bombards your storage drive with the complete and exhaustive list of every player in that town’s inventory + stash (including every stat on every legendary).

Why would they do this? One reason (guessing here) if everyone has a copy of everyone else’s inventory and someone attempts to cheat or modify items, the code wouldn’t line up with the copies on other people’s computers and it would set off the alarms. The other reason is the game needs to be able to display everyone’s character cosmetics there are several other reasons too, but this is why they had trouble initially expanding stash tabs.

That is just ONE of the things that gets loaded in, least we forget the copious amounts of texture data. So the higher the textures the more data needs to be stored in the same amount of time. That being said we are talking microseconds LOL, its an amazing feat of technological ingenuity when you think about it. But the idea is that when you “skip a heartbeat” and times are a bit longer than they expect, that “skip” could be enough time to steal packet data and modify it and inject it back again. THIS is why the servers have a “heart beat monitor” (packet monitor), if they didn’t it wouldn’t be a fun game for other reasons lol.

Now all this being said it vital they take a look at whatever irregularities are getting us booted off.

Like I said it’s so suspicious that my wife’s PC Diablo 4 account thinks my PC Diablo 4 account isn’t being played on a PC.

But it could equally be related to Windows drivers for the ports for some M.2. NVMe drives.

As for the Dxgkrln (basically just Microsoft Direct X) yes mine was spiking up to 600microsec. One thing you can do is to go into the battle.net launcher > Click logo icon> Settings >Game Settings (side menu)> Diablo 4> Add checkmark on “Additional command line arguments”> paste: -use-d3d11 OR, if that doesn’t work paste: -dx11
I suppose you could also force it to use DirectX12 this way but it should be doing that by default. You can test the results and see if the DirectX driver spike settles down.

I’m getting the same issue.
Black screen after teleport to a town.
GUI shows and music plays.
Is happening 3-4 times every couple of hours play.
I’ve only come back to the game recently, but this bug has been very bad the last few days.
Making the game essentially unplayable.
On Diablo 4 version 2.0.3.58904
