The difference I see with BG3 and D4 is that the former makes it clear that it’s doing early release and the player can opt in to do testing of the initial game if they choose to pay in advance, whereas the latter said it was going to be this amazing, totally completed release that we would love, so we gave them money and are essentially stuck as beta testers without consenting to it beforehand.
