I’d be lying if I said this game was good. The only real good thing about it is the smoothness of the gameplay. Grats, blizzard polish. But really? Gonna make uniques untradeable? Gonna use a bunch of soulbinds in a title that is all about the community interaction, trading, etc? This game was developed with pushing the boundaries of microtransactions in mind. Full stop.
I do not care about your profits blizzard, let us trade with other players. Make interesting uniques, remove soulbinding, and allow players to drive the economy. The class builds are modestly interesting, points there. The itemization is trash, unexciting, the uniques are boring, so much of this game is boring. Even in its current state if a robust trading system, world chat, pvp toggle existed it’d be way better. So many hits you could’ve made yet this team seems to want to miss, miss, and miss again. Why? It’s foolish.
Now in Season 1 we’re going to be expected to re-farm Renown. This makes moderate sense simply because not everyone will have the renoun before the reset anyway. But switch the paragon points with the obuls, make the grind less ridiculous. It’s as if ‘anti-player design’ is incorporated into this game from the ground up, from how crappy the map is, lack of autorun, lack of ability to have your mount run you to a location… all the way to itemization, lack of trading and the like, this is antiplayer design blizzard. And for what? It’s because blizzard wants to make as much money as possible by taking the power away from the players. I can almost guarantee that the battlepass for season 1 will include a game advantage that the free one will not. I can almost guarantee that unless blizzard takes a hard 180 on a lot of this, there will be a persistent MTX that comes into the game that equates to p2w. Just like World of Warcraft. WoW is P2W super hard because you can buy wow tokens for gold and profession gear is now crazy strong.
Blizzard takes the power from the players so they can enrich themselves and this game will soon be dead because of all this anti player design they’ve incorporated. It doesn’t matter that the game itself is fun when everything else is derived from making the experience not only hostile, but ‘lonely.’ There’s so many ways that players could be brought together in this game but… no trades, no anything of note.
