It's crazy how dead this game is this season

I just checked SteamDB, and it’s sitting at 2,600 players… just 300 players above D2r.

It’s not just that it’s the end of the season, SteamDB tracks all the daily concurrent player counts since launch.

End of Season 4: 16k players
End of Season 5: 29k players
End of Season 6: 18k players
End of Season 7: 13k players
End of Season 8: 15k players
End of Season 9: 17k players
End of Season 10: 13k players
End of Season 11: 11k players
End of Season 12: 7k players
End of Season 13: 25k players

Season 14 with two full weeks left?
2k players…

There’s more people playing it when you include the battenet and consoles.
But the ratios are almost certainly the same.
The game has 90% less players than it last season, and less than half players the mini-doom season had… that’s really impressive :grimacing:

It’s also 3 am. Did your analysis correlate the times across seasons?

No, the only conclusion you can draw is that it has less STEAM PLAYERS, not overall players.

Just take a look at YouTube. Apart from some bloggers who are making another 100500 video about Warlock, no one speaketh about Diablo 4. Even Wudi hath switched to Albion Online

Daily max for today was 4k players… and there’s still two more weeks of this dead season.

S14 should’ve been a midseason content patch for S13.
A full 77 days of this season is pretty nuts.

I don’t think I fully understand the thought process behind these kinds of topics. Like, do some people get unironically emotional if a given game is, or is not, “dying?” What’s the impact supposed to be, if any? I think I’m missing something.

Not trying to troll, I’m genuinely curious about this. Because to me, if I like a game, and I play it, said game’s “popularity” has little bearing on me and mine. Unless we’re talking about something like an MMORPG. I could understand the “fear” in that genre of a dying game, because said game is balanced specifically and explicitly around group engagement.

Diablo historically isn’t WoW though. So I don’t think I understand the problem. Are we worried blizz will pull support for it? Because they still allow people to play Diablo one, so I don’t think that’s a valid concern. So what is the concern?

I guess TL;DR would be “so what?” But like a genuine so what, if that makes sense. ELI5, here :man_shrugging:

cool? s14 tanked quite a bit with the mythic rain patches.

anyway - i wont get the obsessions from you, or others, that are so deeply invested into how many players play. Do you belong to the microsoft suits xD?

Oh I played until upgrades were a big fat zero, and Mephisto gave me zip. I’ve been playing D3, hardcore, then WoW. But I’m still watching, and waiting :))

The quoted numbers show that this season was pretty bland/bad and players are not willing to put up with the casino cube anymore or play the same 3 OP specs

I’ve seen your posts/reply in many threads and most echo the idea of a crazy mythic drop rate. It’s not that great, the drops are heavily weighted, i.e. some mythic items drop 5-10x more often than others, and most (80% or so) have bad stats, i.e. double defensives. In other words, due to the weighted loot tables, most drops become useless around pit 130, no matter their quality. So, I doubt that this ‘mythic rain’ you speak of is a/the real reason the majority of players abandoned the game mid season.

I don’t know where you really reading those numbers, since what i have here shows around 5000 players on average…

Also, their numbers are fine.
Everyone who knows me here, knows i don’t lick Blizzard boots.
So trust me, besides their average count looking smaller in the end of this season, they are fine.
Those are ok numbers for their Steam client.

white knight jokers will never agree with you on this. they always demand you to supply the figures of the rest of the world knowing it is unattainable by you, and get satisfied by fence you away.

ok cool? thanks for telling me <3

im currently playing amsterdam 1666 right now. though youd like an update on what i do as well.

s14 i finished within 2 weeks, scored in the top 500 on my dance of knives rogue, but lost interest after the “everything drops mythic” patches.

other than that i like sunsets, and long walks at the beach =3

Low player numbers at the end of a long season! No way! That’s some pretty crazy news!

If you were to write a book about it, I’d buy it!

The only thing that really matters… is how good the next season will be… how the game will develop in the future… The fact that it’s not particularly active right now… only really matters to the last few country bumpkins… because you guys think every little thing is the end of the world.

The changes to affixes were terrible; every Unique item needs to have the multipliers, or it’s trash. No one wants to hunt for the same item, find ten of them, and have them all be useless. It was a terrible change that no one asked for.

When enchanting an affix on Uniques was suggested, they refused, saying that Uniques need to be unique. And now, this.

I hope you brought an umbrella with you OP, you will experience a lot of body fluids headed towards your direction…

From a player’s point of view: ‘the season is dead, the game is boring, the servers are empty.’
From a Blizzard employee’s point of view: ‘this season is amazing, players are thrilled, stay tuned for incredible announcements at BlizzCon.’

they should really consider political career, would fit them perfectly

I gave up asking a while ago and for the most part ignore topics such as these. It’s just easier. Typically people who do make these types of posts are obviously fishing for controversy.

If you like the game, play it, if you don’t, then the answer is obvious. Player counts are irrelevant, let the company worry about those. If the game tanks, that isn’t my problem. As an actual player, I couldn’t care less.
