Is this D4 or LA2?

Well, it certainly is moving away from Diablo. It has lost the charm of D1/D2. D3 was a step away IMO too.

I think the graphics and dungeon design is better than D3 though. Though there seems to be a lot of repetitiveness here as you say. Hard to explain why though. I’ll leave that to more experienced players to comment on. And I would wait for the final release to say what I think about the repetitiveness. I probably won’t get to play the beta that much.

The multiplayer aspect to me is completely unnecessary. I will play through Diablo games a couple of times and I’m done. Maybe redo them some years later. It’s a single player game. The multiplayer aspect of it is a completely separate game, AFAIC. I have never played Diablo as MP and never will. The fact there are other people around now is meaningless to me - except that the performance of the game is complete garbage. It’s not even playable. If it has any of the performance issues that I’m seeing in final - I’ll be refunding. I know some people (whales and lifers) might enjoy the MP aspect, and that’s fine. But Diablo is foremost a single player game. I don’t yet know if they have delivered that here.

The auto-levelling mobs are just atrocious. Levelled mobs just makes character levelling seem so much less important. We might as well get rid of levels. I prefer the classic style of clearing areas. I’m not saying that areas can’t be repopulated, I just think the solution hasn’t yet been found. I hated WOW after they started levelling mobs. It made areas feel like variations of the same thing. There was no character development anymore.

This is a continuation of Blizzards drive away from games to services. They want players to be locked in and keep spending money. It’s a shame. I think they have forgotten how to make a game with a start and an end.
