Wave 5 out of 10 and only 200 Aether so far, yet you expect me to get 1000 as part of journey?

My friend and I also don’t understand how to get more than 600. With super luck we had some treasure goblins spawning but that was after we tried like 10 times.
What’s the deal here?
Even regular 10 waves, if you pick the right options, it can give you 1000+ aether.
In S10, if you pick the chaos when they popup (twice per horde), you’ll for sure end up with more than 1500+….
