I played release and seasons 1, 2, and 4. I really liked most of the changes in season 4 but absolutely hated the temper process since getting 2 (let alone 3) good Greater Affixes on an item was already incredibly rare and then the odds were high that I’d just ruin the item with bad tempers at the blacksmith.
The changes for season 5 weren’t significant enough for me to come back. Getting loot and not being excited about it, but rather being filled with anxiety because there’s a high chance of bricking and then salvaging that loot pretty much killed the gameplay loop for me, and it made farming for drops feel pointless.
I was thinking of coming back for the expansion, but I’ll pass (or wait for a 50% off sale) if item bricking is still a thing. Getting good loot in the first place should be the only level of RNG. Getting “good” loot and turning it into garbage in town because I lost the gambling minigame isn’t something I’m coming back to.
Dont quote me on this, but I think theres a restoration scroll that you can obtain to reset the item temper rolls. I left for the exact same reason and I agree with you.
I have a feeling you can only reset the tempering once per item though, so bricking is still possible, but you get twice as many goes with a scroll
It doesnt really help that the most useless tempers come up far more often, and getting the same temper 10x in a row.
Hopefully someone can answer this question with more confidence then I can

there will always be a bricking system in diablo , because blizzard devs are obsessed with ruining your happiness so you keep coming back and waste more time on the game

They added a scroll to reset tempers of an item once and it drops from the new group content. Now you have the chance to brick items twice!

It’s true! I found a GA boots that I failed tempering the first 5 rolls on a 1/3 chance, then again after another 5 rolls with the scroll. I couldn’t hit a 33.3% after 10 rolls. It makes you feel like the game hates you, to say the least.
