I wouldn’t say this is “the” problem, but it’s “a” problem - consoles and computers nowadays can provide game state updates incredibly fast, the fact that something like attack speed is still essentially bound to “frame rate” breakpoints and not just working literally as listed (x% increase) is ridiculous. There’s no way for instance a .1% increase alone can’t be almost exact or at least interpolated enough to have an actual effect.
I don’t think the question should be about the game but the player. For some players they feel if they don’t get a 1,2, or even 3 GA item they are falling behind. It becomes an obsession and they let the anxiety of not having one take over. While other players just shrug it off and move on.
So to me the answer is it’s a good thing if the player has a good and healthy response to it. Otherwise no. But who’s really responsible here? I’d have to say it’s on the player to manage their own expectations.
IDK, I’m kinda torn on this one
Initially thought that GAs would be 1 per item which is perfectly fine, but then the “standard pool” of affixes is too low to have something unordinary/interesting and not be a “life per second” or LPH meme affix
But then I think gives Uniques the final value in return (4GA Uber/Mythic uniques >> 3GA Tempered Legendary, or at least seems to me)
And yes, as the other guys said - it is a problem if 3GA stuff can be an object of massive trade/s
Greater affix is simply just a fancy way of having affix tiers.
D4 never really had affix tiers just a single tier that is determined by item power with a roll range.
Now it has 2 affix tiers, one with a roll range and a higher tier with no roll range.
If you look at PoE, the highest ilvl items can still roll 6 different affix tiers, each with a roll range. So getting an item with 6x T1 (highest tier) is stupidly rare.
The way D4 started was rough. But having rare legendaries was the right call. Having the game rain legendaries like now is just plain stupid. Wearing nothing but legendaries and uniques is just as lame as everyone wearing full sets was in D3. So, at least there is something exciting to chase with Greater Affixes, if those weren’t in the game the game would have no reason to play at all.
Personally, I don’t care for the GA items, it just adds to the more bloat of items in the pool. Granted they fixed some of the itemization, but still find myself salvaging or selling than wanting to work on tempering that item or master work.
It already is bugged to only scale from the base value, not the boosted value. So Masterworking a GA is quite literally no different than Masterworking the same stat elsewhere as a non-GA. The only difference is the inherent bonus stats.
Further to the point of preventing issues, what happens if an item drops fully masterworked? Do you get locked out of Masterworking or do you only hit Tempers? Both more problematic than the current system, despite the more controllable RNG.
The Challenge is only to not constantly hit Main Stat and Max Life, since they appear 99% of the time they are able. It’s rare to see an item drop without either stat than one to drop with one or both masterworked.
As far as I see it, they’re stat boosts on top of a perfect Affix and nothing else. Nice to have, not at all mandatory for majority of content. Only Deep Pit Runss and Tormented Bosses make them feel required.
A lot healthier than Primal Ancients were to D3. I’m somewhat satisfied with GA’s, but there’s not enough variation in loot. It’s boring to see same items over and over again.
I like the GA consept. LPH could easily be a good stat, just indrease the value by x amount. Same with LPS.
The loot hunt feels rewarding imo. But it needs some adjustment.
- Helltides are too easy when you reach a certain point. Adjust mindcage maybe or add more difficult events
- Pit should give better gear and other stuff at higher levels. Because why even push with no leaderboards and no better rewards
I don’t really care. My off-meta builds have only 1-2 GA on their gear and destroy the pit 100+ on hardcore without problems. It is not for 2-3 min like a totally busted barbarian in Barbablo IV, but it does the job. I would appreciate, if we also get ethereal items.
It is 1.5x of maximum roll so it will always be 150% of whatever maxroll you can get.
That’s quite significant imo.
Yeah we don’t need a fun tax, thanks.
As if masterworking crits ever hit anything but the lease desirable stat anyways
