Initial Season 4 Feedback

So I have played roughly 15 hours of Season 4 and I would like to note a few things I have noticed.

First thing is that leveling is way too fast now. I get it. You want the players to zoom to the endgame but there really isn’t much of an endgame. It is just the same stuff. Maybe add more content that is exclusive to the highest World Tier. Something that we haven’t done a million times. That way players have something to look forward to doing when they finally get to World Tier 4. Getting back to leveling though, the experience gain could be nerfed by roughly 15% and still be fine. Its just a little too fast than what I am used to and I started playing Diablo games in D3. When the leveling is way faster than D3 RoS, there is a problem.

Another issue I have noticed is the extreme rarity of Scattered Prisms that drop off of World Bosses. I am level 68, in World Tier 4, and I have roughly 5 Scattered Prisms so far. I have been on top of those World Bosses every chance they spawn as well. Maybe make the World Boss guaranteed to drop at least 2 Scattered Prisms in World Tier 3 and at least 3 in World Tier 4. They are at a rarity right now, I don’t want to use them unless its on perfectly rolled 925 gear. That is a bad issue to have when the jewelry slots are kind of necessary to help players reach resistance caps.

This one isn’t necessarily a huge problem, but gold costs are probably a bit too high for upgrading health potions, repairing equipment, and applying aspects from the codex of power. I agree there should be gold sinks and that people shouldn’t horde gold to the point of it being useless. That said, I ran out of gold 3 times so far and had to go farm. This was with mild use of applying aspects and repairing equipment. The gold cost to upgrade health potions at level 70 is 3 million plus mats. That is just a little excessive. The health potion upgrades are probably the biggest road block in gold cost. If nothing else, health potions should be cheaper to upgrade gold wise.

Another thing, I would like to state that I have noticed a weird bug in Helltides. When I am moving around the terrain, sometimes I will come across an circular area that I can’t traverse over. It is roughly the size of those Helltide Worms that spew forth warriors when your threat level reaches a certain point. I don’t know if its intentional, but maybe check on the spawn points of the Helltide Worms and see if there is some collision issues when they are not spawning or meant to spawn. I am almost certain this is what is causing this issue to occur. I will be WW through a pack of mobs, dust devils flying everywhere, and all of a sudden I hit a movement void where there is no terrain to block me. There I get boxed in from the void and demons spawning in to ambush me. Nearly killed me like 3 times until I found out what was happening.

Finally, I would like to ask that you seriously consider this: How to potentially solve a “Cursed Problem” in ARPG’s (Making multiple playthroughs of the Campaign Fun) - PC General Discussion - Diablo IV Forums (blizzard.com)

It only effects people that actually want to stop and smell the roses of the campaign you created and doesn’t effect endgame. I don’t think this Diablo 4 has to be entirely about the endgame. There could be other ways to mix things up so it doesn’t feel like the same game content wise. Campaign could have this unique thing and World Tier 4 can have its exclusive content. Put together in a package, it can create a lot of replayability. I’m done with the sales pitch now since the post is filled with replies on how it could be feasible.

Here is my feedback. I hope it helps.

Agreed with most of this, except the story. After playing the story once, there is never a reason to go back. Other than a few parts, the cutscenes never meshed well with the gameplay, because either you have 5 minutes cutscenes and do nothing, or you do a thing, get an in-game scene, do another thing, get a scene, do a thing, get a scene. Neither of these things meshed well. D2 and 3 had cutscenes at the beginning and end of an act. That is pretty much all you needed. Maybe through in some exposition dialogue while you play.

Also to add another change: If my character is a tough as nails badazz who can stroll through a pack of elites and not blink an eye, WHY DOES A TINY PUDDLE OF FIRE OR POISON RECK ME IN 1.5 SECONDS!?! What is my capped resists doing there? Does it go on vacation? Please stop making silly things break the power fantasy. Removing fun does not equal challenge, it just equals zero fun.

I don’t think changing the campaign to include side character plots needs to add any additional cutscenes that a player experiences. Maybe there could be new cutscenes but they replace existing cutscenes depending on the choices you made or remove certain cutscenes from happening. When I picture side character plot development, it is with ingame exposition dialog that the character tells you while you are playing or standing there talking to them. It doesn’t need to be extremely intrusive.

This is caused from their changes to damage reduction being more rare mostly. At some point though, you will hit this road block in Pit runs. The pit isn’t meant to be endless. Its really there just to see how far your character build can go into it. Players on the PTR were never meant to reach the highest level of the Pit and complete it. By its very nature, it is meant to push back at the player progressively harder the higher you climb. I don’t think this removes any power fantasy as the content is essentially a measuring stick.

I like the leveling current leveling speed. I feel like I am able to quickly get invested into my character. More endgame content would be nice, I assume we will get that in the near future (maybe before the xpack comes out?)

I wouldn’t hold my breath on that one. They are probably saving the best endgame content for the expansion. The expansion is supposed to be at the end of this year some time. We maybe have Season 5 before we get the new expansion and the odd Season team has struck out twice now. I wouldn’t count on anything crazy exciting before the expansion.

The bad part is, the poison/fire puddle thing happens is gd T4 outdoor helltide farming too. It’s to the point that I just ignore the Hellspires or only push to second phase because the second hellfire puddles start dropping you risk instant death continuing. Death = most of your cinders poof, and who has time for that. I also basicly just go to town during hellfire meteors because using profane mindcages makes it so you never see the ground, which means you can die to puddles you cannot see…

Leveling is fine now. It should be fast. The fun part should come from the end game content. Not simply leveling up.

Ah now I understand. Yeah the Maiden boss in Helltides does that swoop and drops an expanding Hellfire puddle. That is probably the only dangerous thing about the fight. Its not an instant kill but you do have to be on the look out for it as it can get you. It got me a few times but that was because I wasn’t paying attention.

As far as the Hellspires thing, those were a popular mechanic that came forward from Bloodtides. The gimmic is to stand in the circle as long as you can. If you can avoid dying until the end, 3 special elites spawn in that drop tempering manuals. That has been my experience so far. I did fail 2 out of the 6 I did. I had to run out of the circle before it killed me. Mostly due to additional mobs spawning in or being too near a certain area with ranged attackers. Just got to know when to hold em and when to fold em.

LOL no. No it shouldn’t be fast. Not that fast anyway. The leveling speed was fine in Season 2 and 3. I don’t know why they felt they needed to change it AGAIN. :man_facepalming:

After having played about 5 hours between two different classes the loot just feels boring. There’s no dopamine hit, we’ve been getting most of the same loot going on 4 seasons now with a couple new uniques added each time.

I played with the tempering system for a bit at low level. It’s kind of fun finding the manuals and altering your equipment. Think I’m just over D4 until the Xpac and that’s ok!

What would create this dopamine hit for you loot wise? Honestly I think the revamp is good. I do think that they could have let rares still be relevant in the endgame though.
