I'm thinking of getting the new expansion - are there any co-op features like DC?

I’ve read through the description of the expansion, but I can’t see anything explicitly stating that there is, but, before I buy it, I would like to confirm if there are any forced co-op features - I don’t watch any streamers or follow any Blizzard chats, so I am completely unaware if something like a new wing for DC was mentioned once in an off-hand comment.

I never bothered getting the last expansion (or bought any cosmetics or a Battlepass since the last expansion was released) because I didnt like the idea of forced co-op in Diablo - since I have been voting with my dollars, it’s only fair to reward Blizzard if they have indeed dropped that feature.

They have not said anything about a “forced co-op” feature like the Dark Citadel in LoH.

That’s very encouraging.

I’m curious if they made a comment about new co-op only features in a Dev chat or something similar… I dont follow beta news or development stuff, so I am completely clueless about anything not in the official news/press releases.

I have watched all of them because I actually want to know what is coming, they NEVER said anything about it.

Way back, I want to say 2024, Brent made a statement they would be doubling down on the forced co-op content. It would seem the numbers and feedback caught up to them, and they decided not to add any for LoH.

Which in my opinion is a win for the game. If anything it should’ve always been optional to co-op or not.

I remember him saying something about the younger players only knowing how to play games with friends.
Which I thought was interesting because you can play all of Diablo 4 with your friends anytime you want.

I recall that statement - and didnt understand the logic of it at the time: they said that their own data showed 80% of their players playing solo, and it didnt seem like DC was a smashing success - which is why I was wary of pre-ordering.

I’m more confident about purchasing it now.

I’m assuming they learned their lesson after the Citadel was a total flop.

too bad our mecr cant count as a person so people can do the dark citadel solo with the mecr

I think lesson learned on that one. But the question is what lessons were learned. People don’t like forced group play or just that the rewards weren’t worth the effort?

It seems DC was abandoned by the Devs. Maybe they should consider making it soloable.

I remember reading somewhere in the Forum that S11 Capstone Dungeons were inspired by DC. While I don’t believe bringing back Capstone Dungeons was needed, I liked their design. If DC was made solo, giving XP and a bit of mats, nothing crazy, I would probably run it from time to time. Might even join a Party for it once I learn the mechanisms.

While I respect your stance, you’re losing out on VoH features (runes and mercenaries) which offer extra power and flexibility.

You can just ignore the Dark Citadel (which in itself sends the message more clearly - purchased VoH but didn’t even go in there = a more obvious data point for Blizzard).

I never went in there because I have no interest in dying due to another player’s action or inaction (Hardcore).

I’ve played in every season since VoH was released - always getting to at least the pet tier of the journey - without Runes or Mercs, and I’ve wondered how much extra power they really add… that said, a pre-purchase of the new expansion includes VoH. :open_mouth:

Well, the whole game is pretty much playable Co-op  ( Which is probably my favorite aspect of it )

Is it next season there is supposed to be forced pvp? If you don’t play something super busted in that case may as well just take all your gear off, stroll onto the battlefield in your socks and underwear and say just get this over with!

You do get Vessel of Hatred free if you buy the expansion. Still no forced co-op but you’ve avoided buying it so far.

Dark citadel biggest mistake they ever made

Imo all content must be able to do it solo

i mean, if you purchase loh, you will also get VoH, which in return does include the dark citadel.

the co-op mode in dark citadel is referencing to the game called the lost vikings, which was developed by blizzard’s predecessor.
the devs can actually transform the existing co-op mode to be less dependent on other real players by allowing mercenaries to help.
