Im not completely opposed to level scaling, Im opposed to it scaling with your party members 100% sure.
Either way I went into great detail about other parts of the game that contribute to why level scaling in addition to gear being bland etc makes it a fairly boring experience. I honestly wouldn’t list level scaling as one of my top problems with the game though to be clear.
The entire system of Diablo 4 is an artificial world. Blizzard lost the memo of what made these games so fun to begin with. It’s a random open world with quantity over quality.
Quests mattered in D1 and D2. Yes, they were much more linear and they still did a better job at pulling the character into the world via dialogue, tombs, lore, bosses, cinematics, overall story, skills, leveling, and loot.
Diablo 4 tries entirely too hard to be itself while pulling in numerous terrible ideas to meld into a Frankenstein hybrid that just doesn’t work imo. Whether you have an issue with level scaling or perhaps the skill tree/balance in general, the emphasis that is put in paragon points/glyphs over the rest is what feels so off to me.
In Diablo 1 you had 20-30 book skills you could swap to with a click. In D2 you had skills linked to F1-F9 along with weapon swap. People always say “D2 only has 2 skills available” Yes, until you realize you can use a hotkey to switch immediately to a different skill. You cannot do that in D4.
Diablo 4 is 6 skills including a cooldown ultimate and your basic attack. The ultimate should be a seperate button altogether. Skills need more emphasis past just checking boxes up until level 50 and then relying on paragons to push it. I simply just don’t like that type of design philosophy.
(to be clear again… Level Scaling in general isn’t a big problem for me, the fact that they scale dynamically to even my party members does make the game feel worse to me) Level scaling isnt in my top problems with the game but its the combination of that with the other toned down mechanics that make it bland. That being said I did have a ton of fun for two weeks, now I cant play for more than 30 mins
Ultimate being off the skill bar in a separate slot.
Meaning you can add another skill to your actual skill bar and have an ultimate as well for a total of 7 skills, not 6. Not that this would change the issues with the rest of the game.
Oh, I see what you’re saying. Also, I don’t like how they did dodge. On PS5, for D3, my dodge was a roll that I flicked the directional for. They robbed us by making that a button on a controller.
Agreed. I also dislike the constant CC mobs along with not having an indicator of when it will end. It sort of overrides the point of dodge in a sense.
There’s just so much they left out that was already in the previous versions of Diablo that weren’t complained about.
Let me zoom out
Let me have a stash (oh there is? ehhh, you got a mailbox at best)
Let me have a place to save my build/gear to quick swap
Let me have social that doesnt cover up my entire screen
Let me have more game development than labelling all damage debuffs as vulnerable and then make that the only separate multiplier besides critical and watered down attributes
It means the entire world map is playable even after you max out your character, instead of just doing the same 4 boss runs … wow so cool doing the same boss runs for another decade . Go back to D2 if you want to run the same bosses over and over and over again and feel like a champ by 1 shotting Den of evil
If these small issues bother you may I suggest going outside for some fresh air and touch some grass, it can do wonders for you !!!
The biggest mistake was starting with the idea of an open world Diablo and then trying to figure out how to make it work. They just simply lack the vision, talent and understanding of what makes arpgs/dungeon crawlers work.
I don’t think the current devs understand arpgs at all.
And yet you still got the game played it had a reasonable amount of “Fun”, leveled some characters up and then aftger a few hundred hours have probably decided this game is boring
Yeah I played it. I honestly didn’t enjoy much of any of it but I figured I’d get my $100 worth. I also wanted to be able to pick it apart. The game is trash honestly and for a triple AAA game from the company who codified the genre it’s a travesty.
That’s your opinion man. The vast majority of people that own the game are actually enjoying the game !!!.
In the end if you want a aRPG made specifically for you may I suggest getting like minded folks together and launching your own venture, seeing as how Blizzard have so called “Failed” over the last decade or so since D3.
Instead of giving them more of your money and whining on their forums you could code your own game and be happy. In before you can even get “Hello World” working let alone a single line of actual game code !
… conditional on you not doing anything with the power you gain at each level? That’s a dumb conditional. You gain more power than the mobs, and that’s why you are facerolling stuff at level 60.
Nowhere in your post is there an alternate theory of why people don’t like level scaling. It’s really hard to understand your argument if you just ramble on. Can you state why level scaling is bad in 2-3 sentences?
This is the closest thing I can find to explain, “why people don’t like scaling.” But you can go back to somewhere to tell you’ve gotten stronger: a lower world tier or NM tier or world boss or eventually the Helltide bosses.
The monsters behave differently, have different powers, and drop different loot. Not sure what else you want to be different?
If your entire problem with the system would be solved by the them hiding the level of other players in open world content, then I don’t think it’s really a broken system.
You were so quick to run in to be snarky, you did not even take the time to read what was posted. Yet, you have the nerve to question anyone’s IQ. Amazing!
steals one of my fav bands names then insults the way I live outside of the game … dang hurts doubly bad. ; ( I mean we’re here to talk about the game, that’s what the forums are for, but next time I see my therapist I’ll tell him he might be onto something.
I do agree as I’ve said, level scaling isnt the main problem it just combines with all this other bland stuff to make the game feel pretty bland. The combat is good, but it just doesnt vary at all in terms of difficulty… Honestly even when I go into higher NM dungeons it hasn’t felt that different, and when it does get to a reasonable difficulty +13-18 levels higher in NM dungeons its unsatisfying to know Im not getting better rewards than if Im fighting mobs 3 levels higher. I do it anyway sometimes when I want a challenge and am not trying to grind levels quite as efficiently because its the only time where I feel like I’m having to utilize playing correctly.
an arpg made for me. Like good ones lile dark stone,d1,d2, grim dawn, titan quest, poe, Victor vran… there’s tons of good ones.
This one ain’t it.
Anyone who actually enjoys arpgs and understands them can in no way claim this is a good dungeon crawler/arpg.
His post is between 70% to 95% the same as with other QQ’ers. So why bother? If I would read and get $1 for every QQ post about “level scaling”, I would had enough money to … buy some copies of D4 give them away for free.
And yes! If you QQ about leveling scale, one needs to check IQ, because you can literally 1 shot everything ( almost ) in game now if you have the decency to read about the game and howto … play it properly.
If you want to play it your way, then stop crying.
