IDEA: The D4 Currency System. đź’°

D4 could add its own version of usable currency in the game with rarities. I am going to call these items Shards.

Players would gain a shard tab that would be able to hold all of these for them like we should have for runes.

They are all tradeable.

These are 1 time use for the effect.

Using a shard on item does not bind to account unless stated.

All monsters can drop a shard but there is a better chance from chests. Chests love to have shards.

A new shard vendor is added to the game in each zone. This vendor will sell random shards with mostly always common versions. The vendor starts with 3 slots and gains 1 slot per each region renown you have unlocked better vendors. Better Vendors is a new earnable renown reward for each zone located after the paragon bonus that reduces cost of items, improves chance for vendor to sell uniques, and adds 2 slots to all vendors in that zone.

Shard of Masterworking - Common - Choose an affix to reroll on a 4/8/12 roll. The chance this affix is selected for a masterwork crit is raised 5%.
Shard of Masterworking - Magic - Choose an affix to reroll on a 4/8/12 roll. The chance this affix is selected for a masterwork crit is raised 8%.
Shard of Masterworking - Rare - Choose an affix to reroll on a 4/8/12 roll. The chance this affix is selected for a masterwork crit is raised 12%.
Shard of Masterworking - Legendary - Choose an affix to reroll on a 4/8/12 roll. The chance this affix is selected for a masterwork crit is raised 17%.
Shard of Masterworking - Unique - Choose an affix to reroll on a 4/8/12 roll. The chance this affix is selected for a masterwork crit is raised 25%.
Shard of Masterworking - Mythic- Choose an affix to reroll on a 4/8/12 roll. The chance this affix is selected for a masterwork crit is raised 40%.

Now that you see the basic version of how this works I will list more in basic format where better versions increase value of X.

Shard of Power - Choose an affix and reroll its range with X% better chance for max. Cant choose the main affix.

Shard of Greater Power - Choose an item and reroll all its affix ranges with X% better chances for max. Does not reroll main affix.

Shard of Absolute Power - Choose a unique item and reroll the main affix with X% better chance for max. This shard is rare.

Shard of Aspect Power - Choose an item with an aspect and reroll the aspect range with X% better chance for max.

Shard of Enchantment - Choose an affix and enchant it for free with X% better chance for max. This binds the item.

Shard of Greater Enchantment - Choose an affix and enchant it. This enchantment has a X% chance to keep or create a GA. This shard does not let you enchant two different affixes. This shard is very very rare. This shard binds the item.

Shard of Tempering - Choose a temper and reroll its range with X% greater chance for max. This does not let you change tempers. IT only changes the range of the roll you have.

Shard of Reallocation - Reroll what affixes have a GA on this item with an X% chance to let you choose 1 of them. The number of GA will not change. This shard is very rare.

Shard of Unbinding. Resets an item to default. Removes enchantment, tempers, masterworking, and then unbinds it but has an X% chance to destroy it. Better version of this shard have less of a chance to destroy the item. This is useful if you get an item from say a goblin cache that you want to sell or bricked an item. This shard is very rare.
This shard cannot remove PvP marked items.

Shard of PvP - Choose an item and mark it for PvP. This item gains X% effect in PvP zones. IF you die in PvP zone by another player, you have a small chance to drop a random item with the PvP mark inside a cache with your name. IF a player extracts it opens all PvP caches they have and unbinds these items as is [They dont lose tempers or masterworking.] Once an item is marked for PvP it cannot be removed except by wonder. IF a player leaves the PvP area, then they drop all PvP caches. PvP caches are seen on the map as a way to encourage PvP. PvP caches that are unclaimed for some period of time will be send to the PvP goblin item pool. PvP goblins will rarely appear in any area [not just pvp] to drop these unclaimed caches that must be extracted to escape.

This shard binds the item.

You are always marked for blood if you have an items marked for PvP.

Shard of Wonder - Choose an item to have it affected by wonder. Each item can only be wondered 1 time. Wonder is not always good. This shard is very very very rare. Almost mythic rarity and this is the only version of it as it has no X% on it.

8 example wonder choices:
A] Chance the implicit to another items implicit. You can get some weird one of a kind items this way!
B] Replace a random unique affix with another unique affix. Main affixes are not possible. Duplicate affixes are possible like movement speed twice. You could get some godly or strange gear with this! No putting Fist of Fate 300% on your Penitent Boots!
C] Fully repairs item and makes it indestructible
D] Item gains a special only wonder cosmetic that can never be changed.
E] Sends item to a New Wonder Goblin somewhere in the game. The wonder goblin will drop items that have been sent this way with full masterworks and tempers. These items are then unbound. The player will see this goblin on the map. Get to it before other players to recover your item!
F] Add or remove the PvP mark on an item. IF it adds the PvP mark, it binds the item. IF it removes the pvp mark and is not tempered or masterworked or enchanted, then it unbinds the item.
G] Corrupts item so it cannot be repaired.
H] Dismantles item but you get 30x normal amount of materials

Shard of the Golden Hammer - Choose an item. This item can now be masterworked to 16/16 but can never be reset except by the shard of unbinding. You may choose the 4th crit. This is the most rare shard. You can only equip 1 item with the golden hammer so choose carefully! This shard has only 1 version.

This also gives us way more things to trade other than gold in case you dont need more gold as many of these I imagine would be worth hundreds of millions or even billions of gold like the golden hammer.

Your ideas are bad. Your not a Dev and thank god their not listening to you. Game would be aweful and far worse if they did

Would be too much powercreep tho, but I like the idea of 1 single item could be masterworked to 16 like d3 had it with - forgot its name - so that one stuff which could make an item primal and one only could be equipped.

They’re struggling to fix basic things in this game and you asking them to add some complicated, bonkers ideas?

Its swing…anyhow…comes with alot of strikeouts. Just fix stability and balance…endgame

Anyway having any “currency” without decent trading system is like polishing car without wheels.

ITs just an idea how it could work. I know there are other problems in the game that need fixing first. This is something that maybe they could do by S10 or so.

At least you are still trying!!
As for ideas used in other games, which I have seen people berate you for lately— hell yes, take the best of what has been done before, put a Diablo spin on it, and make the game better.
Unfortunately, it seems like the people who make this game keep changing their changes over and over and are stuck. Maybe some ideas like yours will shake them up.
Plus, your posts give us something to talk about during this seemingly infinite wait for something new to do in the game!!
