I think the timing is a big factor. Anyone with any level of neckbeard capability is pretty done with season 6. So this new game comes out, and season 7 isn’t out for a couple months…
It would be vastly different if POE2 launched at the same time as season 7.
I don’t think it would. I think it would if the season had something going for it, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some people didn’t just play the PTR and then skipped S7 because there is so little to it.
I’ll put it like this. I am 54 years old I have been playing video games since the early 80’s when my mom would drop me off at the local arcade with a pocket full of quarters and I would game until my hands bled. I sold my entire Magic the Gathering collection to buy my first PC in 1999 so I could play Asheron’s Call. I am and always will be a fan of RPG of all kinds but MMO’s were my first love in the PC genre, Diablo, Warcraft, Titan Quest and Command and Conquer were my 2nd loves.
If you’re reading this far then continue with me, I promise I’m going somewhere with this. I have a very dear friend of mine whom I’ve known for a very long time. He enjoys sports games and FPS, titles and genres with little to no depth but plenty of player skill required. I hate those types of games, He plays games as a time waster while drinking beer and hanging with the bros. I do not play like this, I want my faculties about me, I want to be engaged with the systems and see character growth. He can’t stand games like RPG’s because it takes too much time to invest.
Diablo IV is a game built for me friend.
PoE2 is a game built for me.
There I hope this helps. Chances are most aren’t as extreme as me and my buddy and most can tolerate a little bit of both and that’s cool. I enjoyed D4 for the time I invested up until this season at least. S6 was a complete and colossal failure in my mind. But I am also fairly certain D4 will never assuage my need for depth and complexity, even as a dad gamer (or granddad in my case). PoE2 will, it’s as simple as that.
4 is about damage migration, takes a bit of playing around to get it working for what ever build you are playing. Ya one shots out of the blue are annoying. Not all builds work well with certain creature types,You have to pick and chose affixes you put on maps carefully. That or just run maps you know you can handle .wash/rinse and repeat.
