I think I may have an idea [Skill Tree and Tempers]

We have weapon, offensive, utility, defensive, and a few more temperings.

Let’s say we have weapon temperings on a 2-handed weapon, for most classes this is the only weapon tempering possible.
Let’s say as a necromancer that want to use the new Hand of Naz, I only am using minion mages.

What would interesting temperings include?

  • Mages cast twice
  • Mages do double damage
  • Mages have increased attack speed

Let’s think about what’s best.

  • Cast twice does not work with ring on mendeln, the main damage source of every minion necromancer. If their base attacks do about 10 % of your damage and you double it, that’s 10 % more damage in total with 100 % chance to cast twice.
  • Double damage is indeed double the damage.
  • Increased attack speed will probably be in the wrong bucket and you are already at 100 % bonus. But even in bucket 2, a 100 % attack speed increase (from 200 % to 300 %) would only get you 50 % more damage. More likely a 40 % bonus will give you 20 % more damage.

The problem with tempering recipes is that one is always a clear favorite. A bad roll on a good one is most likely better than a perfect roll on the wrong one.

The other downside is the huge amount of extra work that needs to be put into this overhaul of the tempering recipes.

We are talking about month of work and it is not clear that the result will be any better.
