I used Hydra of both bêtas. Worked really well.
I cant Say for late game, but still, its fun to play.

Surprised at the troll responses (like 90%) of posts here to a valid point, skills that were nerfed on sorc based on whining about lvl 25 beta performance are nowhere to be found (also ice blades?). In trees with so few skill options, nuking one to irrelevance with unwarranted nerfs is quite bad

So much ignorance and ridiculous responses in this topic, from people being too focused on “burning” TC, to someone saying, people(Maxroll) have no idea what they’re talking about and to play what you want, when these people make it their business to test and know how well things perform relative to one another.
The topic is saying as a build, Hydra is bad, which seems to be true, it’s not a skill you can make a build around currently, and is just a supplementary skill. I don’t even see it listed currently on the tier list on Maxroll.

Pretty much standard for this forum. Any valid point is just met with thoughtless trolling.
It keeps the thread bumped but does just muddy any chance at an intelligent dialog.
In other words there are some huge smooth brains on this forum that think they are valid.

A skill that is so good that it automatically makes 99% of players choose that skill directly goes against the idea of “play your way” and kills creativity in build making. Balance is important.
100% agree… I am glad we understand each other.
It needs to be closer to the middle… and not swing too far on either side of the scale.
Currently hydra is on t he bottom of the scale. IT was on the top. They did a piss poor job of balance. It needs to be corrected.

On topic, I like hydra, but it was NEVER going to be a “build”.
Its an “accessory”…period.

you cant look at lvl 20 beta and decide if a move is good

ive seen some endgame builds with 12/5 for abilities. so you can power them up a lot. Find that unique helm that gives +4 to all abilities and it can go much further than that

more importantly, if you look at paragon boards you can boost the damage of summons to crazy levels. Glyphs like “conjurer” can give conjuration skills +19.2% damage for every 5 intelligence in the area. playing around with the build calculator I was able to get well over 400% increase to conjuration skills, in addition to getting 20% increased duration. This is discounting the actual glyph itself which would provide a huge boost. in actual i would expect around a 550% damage boost. and this would stack with other bonuses like non physical damage and vulnerable damage boosts, for instance. In theory you can build hydra to do insane damage if thats how you want to play
You’re paying attention to ratings given by people whose true opinion is, in essence, “If it’s not the best of the best of the best, it’s utter trash”. Everything is S+ or F-. They only fill in the levels between in order to get more likes/whatever/

They rate it on how viable it plays. In various settings.
If you have an IQ of 90+ and watch a single video you would know that.

Hydra as a main dps ability isn’t a build, but it’s not useless. I’ve seen several end game builds that use hydra. I have a build I’m tweaking where I’m considering hydra.

Except that’s not how it actually works.
Whatever is the “worst”, will be declared “F-tier”. Where the other tiers fall between that and “best of the best” is dynamically flexible.
Essentially, they all get graded on a curve.

if you look at that stupid list, you will find arc lash as “A” tier.
But if you actually fill out the paragon boards you will see nodes everywhere that boost NON physical damage. arc lash is considered physical damage
so i was easily able to boost non physical damage by over 200% in paragon. so a move like arc lash, which is a physical damage move, doesnt get these boosts.
so a move like arc lash might be great for leveling but the other starting abilities can easily surpass it in damage
there is no end game tier list because the reviews have very limited endgame play. Disregard all the stupid endgame tier lists. we will have a true understanding a month from now how powerful moves are in the endgame
