How was D4's 1.0 Launch?

I don’t recall any issues with D4 on early access or launch. I’m on LE right now on offline SSF, so I’m not experiencing the issues others are having.

I’ll give them credit, that patch really did improve the graphics somewhat and made gameplay so much smoother. I hope they get through their launch day blues because they have a good alternative ARPG on their hands.

1.0 was not tested publicly- they wanted the launch hype of the updated graphics, new masteries etc etc

They pre-sold one million copies, that is ~$50 million revenue before factoring in supporter packs. They knew the scale of the support and companies like blizzard and GGG plan excess (temporary) capacity for launch periods. I work in IT, infrastructure is elastic… what trips people up is bottle necks (or the rate of elasticity). If you don’t test, you don’t find bottlenecks - so even if they threw the full $50 mil into infrastructure, they would not be deploying it in the right spaces to ensure a smooth launch (which is why the are now scrambling).

This could have been a 1.0 PTR where they said “cool we are working on some bug fixes PTR will be down blah blah” 9.2 or whatever not affected. Then next week/weekend wipe it all and go live.

There is still offline play though so not all bad. This is why I am nervous about anytime blizzard tries secret launches… if their 10.2.6 patch has a technical hitch in wow, they will have egg on their face.

Not for 1.0.

The number of copies sold is irrelevant unless those sales are in context to preorder numbers and/or if the game has yet to release. Last Epoch has been in early access for five years. Those one million copies sold are over the span of five years and do not correspond with the more recent increase in marketing and/or announced released date. In such scenarios, early access sales hardly ever translate well to player capacity on launch date, especially since you have to also consider what your sales will be post-1.0 release. Player engagement is a more useful metric to view when discerning how you need to scale your server infrastructure, and as I’ve already stated, Last Epoch doesn’t exactly have high player retention.

Blizzard and GGG have capital to spend on temporary capacity. EHG do not.

In my experience the D4 launch was very smooth.

What issues I had were on my own end. I experienced a lot of lag and freezing, but that was because I hadn’t installed the game properly (I tried to install the game without installing 4k textures and the game didn’t like that. Once I installed them all the lag and freezing went away).

Since then I do get impacted with the occasional lag spike, but I am 99% sure that’s a hardware issue on my end, not something Blizzard can solve.

ehg that took huge investment money from tencent doesnt have money for server capacity? please dont come to the d4 forums to whiteknight and shill for ehg

Blizzard is a multi billion company and I always have problem with patch downloads.
They also have their fair share of launch problems

It was a minority stake. I don’t know why people leverage this as if Last Epoch has the full backing of Tencent.

To claim moral superiority and point to the evil Chinese investor as if Blackrock is so much better.

Due to their passion for Last Epoch, but most importantly because of their willingness to let us design, create, operate, and grow how we see fit, we have accepted a low-equity investment from Tencent Games.

From the press release.

yes they accepted investment from tencent. low equity doesnt refer to the amount of money they received. it refers to the stake in the company tencent received. so your argument is?

When did the gpu 4080ti bricking stuff stop?

No argument. Just adding context.

Honestly, I just hope EHG get whatever launch issues solved quickly, like you say all their marketing spend will not convert if the narrative of “DOA” doesn’t get resolved. I enjoy the game much more than D4 or POE - though I do jump across all of them as new content emerges… haven’t been able to last more than 20-30 levels in POE since they redid the atlas ditto S3 of D4 I quit at level 40 after traps were the season gimmick and uber drops were not addressed.

finally got into online mode at 4:44 server time. Only took 5 hours

Actually I don’t believe the issues have changed much, Still buggy itemization & skills there are other issues like unbalanced damage

Launch first day was fairly smooth except for some login issues and queues for some ppl as I recall.

I’ve seen a heard stuff about LE since they made a post talking about making an ARPG back in 2016 or so.

I remember the first hour having difficulty to login.

After which we have that rubber banding lag. Overall was ok. Still playable.

What do you mean by launch? Game is still in beta

seems to be a recurring theme with “MMOs” aka “raid simulators”

once people realize mmo doesn’t mean raid simulator, I might go back to playing them
