It for sure needs to be account wide points. its just dumb to have to grind it on multiple characters
As for choice. Maybe they could allow you to assemble w/e war plan you want, and IF they feel the need to push you toward certain content they could just show which options are currently more likely to have the bigger reward.
If they wanted to get really creative they could give additional boosts to the chance of getting good reward tiers or scale the xp gain toward unlocking points for a specific activity for varied plans so you are incentivized not to just run the thing you want to level or the thing most likely to produce higher rewards 5 times every time.
Rewards could roll only AFTER all of your selections are in place so you can’t keep adding and removing nodes to get the exact rewards you want.
And they could keep the 3 rerolls to let you use it after a plan was made and locked into place so if you didn’t get any rewards you are after you could retry the plan up to 3 times just like they do now.
I think depending on how they present the options that are more likely to give higher reward rolls they could still have it be a guide for new players who feel lost in the endgame, while not forcing people to engage with content they would either prefer not to play, or have planned for a different stage of their progression.
Once again presentation and implementation are at odds. WAR PLANS made it sound like YOU the PLAYER are planning something. This was a very appealing idea to add a layer of strategic play into the game, but instead it just feels like your average go kill 10 orcs and bring me some claws, dressed up in a fancy UI.
Done well, building the actual Warplans could be a very compelling component for strategic play and forcing the player to make choices with meaningful tradeoffs instead of forcing specific content.
Easiest fix would be to add some warplan points to the seasonal journey that you could spend wherever you want. That way alternate characters would have points to invest immediately in the warplan.

i guess that would be a band-aid to allow you to get some rewards sooner on a new character, but i’m not talking about a band-aid. I’m talking about elevating the system to provide an experience that the name of the system suggests
IE putting the “plan” in Warplans
I would like to have invasion and strongholds as an option though I don’t know how they would do that without making a whole new category. Maybe combine them with Hordes.

i agree it would make sense to have these be more meaningful in endgame
Account wide or bust.
The way they are now, it is single handedly preventing any motivation to play an alt.
I have a stash full of amazing items I’m probably going to salvage soon… I wanted to play more characters, but the thought of grinding out another WP is quite off putting.

This would be a nice either/or node.
I actually don’t mind IH’s (ducks for cover), though making strongholds relevant outside making sure they don’t brick your escalation dungeons like this sounds like a win to me.
Same with Legions or whatever they’re called. If it wasn’t for the seasonal objective, I wouldn’t touch them at all.
I truly don’t understand the unwavering necessity for WPs to be account wide. What are you gaining? This season I am playing on eternal. I have a druid, rogue, and 3 sorcs. Each has its own war plan and that has worked well for me. The biggest benefit I have gotten is that I try to avoid the under city at all costs. When I strike out and am forced to accept the final plan I can log onto one of my other characters, finish their plan, get 3 more plan points, choose a new plan for that character and then use the remaining points for the previous character thus avoiding the crappy plan I would have been stuck with. So, not trying to cause a ruckus, seriously want to know what I would gain. Is it just a seasonal desire? Cheers
Yes. It’s definitely a seasonal thing for me at least. I’m not grinding out another 10/10 Warplan. One a season is enough if the XP requirements remain the same.
Eternal is a different beast. You will inevitably max it out anyway. I have an odd 3 months, which half is spent maxing it out. At that point I may as well continue my character, not worth starting again on another.
I don’t want shared war plans. I like to switch between characters.
for me warplans need 2 changes
they should just let you pick which 5 activities you want to do. if i want to focus solely on farming nmds i should be able to make a straight 5 nmd warplan
then, keep the random rewards BUT
introduce a system to let you change the rewards you can get on a node, or, add rewards to an empty node, similar to how undercity that lets you spend obols, gold, materials to get more of X
i agree the way you spend the points should not be shared, but the XP to level the activities should

Realm-wide progress would be nice and all but it still sucks to interact with it. My biggest gripe is that it dictates how we play the game - the exact opposite of what was advertised to us.
They could drop consumables used to alter the warplan nodes. But the cooler thing would probably be a dedicated warplan passive tree. Trees are cool.
Again when i say account wide or realm wide i don’t mean how the points are used, just the earned XP/points pool, like the way paragon works.
100% agree it would be worse than it is now if all characters had to share a specific setup
i’m not sure realm wide war plan progression would work since increased monster power isn’t a great idea for lower level characters. the meat brothers will slaughter you if you’re not ready for them. just seems like it was designed to be a part of individual character progression.
im not sure why so many people seem to read shared XP/points to spend as shared points spent.
think Paragon points. You have the points on all characters. it doesnt mean you have the same paragon spec.

devs are pushing more and more grind on us. I doubt they go account wide. Hopefully, a increase to points/experience gained per activity is coming
yeah no big deal. if that is the case it just means i don’t do alts anymore. so time played per season will be reduced about 70% or more for me. More time for other games i guess
Another method to “fix” would be to issue a large bonus warplan XP until you reach the warplan XP of your highest character in the realm (seasonal/eternal/etc).
agreed, I just made a warlock to try and not sure which I am looking forward to least..WP’s or Glyphs/Pit
